Residue Processing level - bug?
Towards the end of Residue Processing, you exit into a small room fed by multiple conveyors. The only way forward is down a tunnel with small pistons that crush you. At the other end of the room is a panel with a level that when pulled, does absolutely nothing.
You can't speed run through using the suits speed up feature, you can't wait in-between pistons, and you can't blow them up with remote mines.
Is this a bug? Is that level supposed to do something? What am I missing?

I hope it is not too late to chime in. I had the same problem, it seems the second set of pistons can get glitch out of the correct timing. I read on another forum post here (I hope the link works... this is my first forum post on steam). I tried solution offered there to restart at an earlier save (I used the autosave on the conveyor belt right before opening the door to the crushers) and after that I made it through the second set of crushers on my first try. So it seems to be a bit of a glitch to me. Hope this helps.:steamhappy:

Been fighting this one for the last 30 minutes. First set of pistons. Standing up against them waiting for the first one to raise enough. Speed button and forward buttons pushed. Third piston gets me every time even though it visually appears to be going up still when I get to it. Getting close to just enabling cheat codes. Not worth the headache.

Found the answer in another thread. The kill mechanism gets out of sync with the pistons after time. Reload the autosave when you enter this room, throw the lever to open the door and immediately run the gauntlet. Worked my first time through.

It's annoying bug, since in the original HL these pistons alot easier to get through.
I remember how to pass this: when first of pistons start to go up, immedately crouch and get under it, when height is enough to stand up, start running forward. Thus you get enough time to pass the conveyor.

Half-Life used brushes; it made it easier to get through.

But new techologies not meant to make obstacles much harder, right?

It has nothing to do with how it is made. It is a glitch that changes the piston timing.

I called it "bug" from the start, the same as you do now, so it needs to be fixed.

My comment was only to show that Half-Life's pistons are unlikely to cause you any trouble whereas the Black Mesa's pistons use models parented to a func_brush (or invisible wall if you are not used to level design terms) which can sometimes cause problems.

And years later, bug still not fixed. And seriously, we're not here to DeFRaG / pixel perfect jumps...

There was never a bug in the first place. It is caused by a corrupt save game file.
And please don't necro old threads, thanks.

It happens every time even if starting from scratch, and from I read here, not from corrupted save but rather in the period of time from map loading pistons will start to desync frm each other.

Not sure if this is dead or not, but how I solved it was to get close to the first piston when it's down and crouch. As soon as I could get under it I let go of crouch and started sprinting.

Found a way to do it, but you gotta be quick, crouch at the first piston, get a little bit under then start sprinting for your life
Chemix Sep 28, 2019 @ 9:26pm
For piston set 2, I found that sprinting alone was not enough, I had to crouch at the very last second in order to avoid the piston, either way, it'd be nice to see this fixed
