loading screens ruin the game
im aware that the original half life games all had annoying loading screens but they made sense at the time due to pc hardware being so slow back then, however theres no excuse for the loading screens to still exist in this current game, especially when theyre basically just as long to load as the original games are despite everyone using ssd's now

maybe to you the use of loading screens is unnecessary beacuse of your good hardware, but not everyone has the same equipment as you. And i don't think that they are such an issue to the point of 'ruining the game'

well do any games even have loading screens now? i recently just finished playing elden ring which is a massive open world game and i never encountered a loading screen.
i think its unacceptable in this game to even have loading screens that you can trigger back to back if you simply move back and forth between them

overated open world dark souls and Black Mesa are two complety different games. One is an open world game that came out this year and was made by a AAA studio the other one is a remaster made by fans in 2020, and it's actually good unlike elden ring.

The thing with loading screens is they are there, you just never see them because they're hidden. Whether by using an elevator, teleporting to a different grace, or walking in a door, they are there. They're just loaded in the background anticipating when you get close.
NO game can get away from loading screens. There are even games which slow your pace to a crawl when changing areas to give the game time to play catch up and load the next spot with out saying "LOADING" on the screen. There are all kinds of developer tricks in the background to hide the loading screen, but it's still there.

that's true i forgot about that thx friend. Another good exemple is the elevators in Fallout 4.

Because the maps back in 1998 were designed for loading screens. Even though they've been heavily updated both in terms of layout and graphics, they're still the same maps at heart, and if you look at the mockups that people have made online (https://i.imgur.com/ASuRHWg.png), well, that's just impractical to keep loaded all at once. That, and this engine is effectively from 2003. Regardless, it definitely doesn't ruin the game, I'm using an HDD still and they load pretty quickly.

Here's another good one, I was playing Code Vein when it first came out, and at one point I moved too fast for my NPC ally to catch up, and went into the next area. I turned around to see where they were just intime for them to fall out of the world because a fog door went up behind me as I transitioned areas, and it deloaded the area behind the fog door. And they couldn't teleport back to me because they were in a perpetual state of free fall.

I will say this by the way, having played Elden ring my self, and yeah, there are plenty of loading screens, Cutscenes and the like hide a lot of them. But loading in the game for the first time that session? Loading screen. Using Grace to teleport to the main hub or anywhere else? Loading screen! or do you mean when you're out and about in the world and switch areas that way? Yep loading screens there too! The great Elevator? just a big old loading screen disguised as a cutscene, going into a crypt or dungeon in the world? Yep loading there too!

i see boundary break about elden ring, actually the world is loaded, but when place is far from our character they just see as low polygon thing or low rendered texture, but when you near to that place it loading basically but fast and hidden just make the low quality render become high quality render. so yeah basically all games has loading screen, and im pretty sure if elden ring loaded the lands of between in high quality render all, even latest RTX doesn't help to get good framerates. imo

Those are called LODs, or Level of Distance. They're very prevalent in most 3D games unless they're really tiny games. Even the Source engine uses LODs. They have lower polygon counts that are easier to load in when at a distance, and it's switched to a higher quality LOD when you get closer.

NVIDIA's RTX was never supposed to help get good framerates. RTX is a very demanding graphics enhancement. Do you mean NVIDIA DLSS or AMD FSR? Those could greatly improve the framerates, even in Black Mesa, but unfortunately I don't think anyone at Valve has the time to implement either.

I mean a group IS currently working on remaking Black Mesa in the GoldSource Engine, they had a demo out not too long ago, but had to take it down because there were too many bugs with it.
