Just my opinion, I still really like it (although I wish Xen would finally be released...)
The mp5 grenade launcher is also pretty good at taking them out.
i really wish they could be exploded into bloody chunks like in the original though, it was so satisfying :D
PS I have used mines against assassins.
What I do usually on this level is kill about 2-3 of them before climbing up, and afterwards rushing to the healthkit depo on the top level, which about 5 will spawn. So it's just grenade spam until I reach the container which they can't flank or sneak past me.
In HL1, they were annoying, but they did not do so much damage. In BM, they do so much damage you have to resort to subterfuge to make it through.
Or just screw it, sv_cheats 1, god, and leisurely stroll through the area. That is, by the way, a real fun way to fully explore underwater areas that you would otherwise just get a glimpse as you rushed by.
