You cannot please everyone. That was never the objective, anyways.
If it's too similar to the previous entry they complain, if it's too different they complain, if a remake is trying something different they also complain but when a remake is "too faithful" they just say "why not playing the original then?".
This is a reason why we got a remake, reboot and requel culture going on for movies (reboots/remakes disguised as sequels like Star Wars The Force Awakens which is basically A New Hope Bis, remakes that are in fact in-universe reboots like FF7 Remake and then when a sequel is too far from the original people think it's a new thing under an already existing brand).
At that point I'm pretty sure that the critics will be negative about Half-Life 3 or if we get fans to remake Half-Life² under Source 2.
Alyx had the excuse of being an "interquel" with a character other than Gordon to be its own thing and then again for many it's more like a tech demo for VR while having elements changed from HL² that they crticised.
After a while maybe we can just accept BM for simply being a different interpretation of Half-Life without trying to replace the original but to offer a new experience.
They spent way too much time making the levels difficult to complete, And very little time making the levels fun. This was apparent all through the game.
So any deviation from the original is in my opinion a good thing, As it will most likely add fun back into the game. And it did. The final levels were a very good balance of difficulty and fun. Where as the original levels are just never ending mazes of tricks and traps, And leaves you never wanting to play it again. And that's without even mentioning the nice graphics that BM has, Compared to the original, It's no contest.
How do you know these were the same people? Can you show us even one example?
Q: Are you re-makng Half-Life? Don't change a thing!
A: If you want such product, you can get Half Life Source.
There is a reason why feedback has to be filtered. Purist love even the bad things, they won't let anything move forward. So if you are a purist, just resort to the biggest insult: don't get the product.
Do you not understand different individuals want different things?
I don't remember people complaining it's the same as Half Life, the game was marketed as direct source port of half Life.
Black Mesa was marketed as a Half Life reimagined, people expect a remake so yeah, complaining about that is weird but most of the complains is that they removed some of the original content and made it worse. That's not what people expect in a remake and worthy of a complain. Then, you have this brightness issue that many people and I had.
I personally have a nostalgia collection for that exact reason.
