help with power up

so, at the beginning of the chapter, a gargantua or whatever kills a bunch of guys, and i am supposed to go through an open door leading to a two way hallway. (according to a walkthrough) however, when i got to the door, instead of being a regular open door, it was a closed blast door with a switch on the side (the switch does nothing)

what do i do!!!!!

sounds to me like the walkthrough is old, nowadays you're actually supposed to go into the big opening with rails into a generator type room (think it's the room the gargantuan enters from at first), there should be some ladders and stuff to walk on to get up to (i think?) a ventilation shaft
