Stuck in office complex area help

I am at the part where you come across a security guard and a zombie behind a chain linked fence and i didn't help the security guard (killing the zombie) and idk what to do now

you dont need to do anything. thats optional to save the guard. if you do save him, youre rewarded with a new weapon. otherwise, just go back down the hallway the way you came and then turn left instead of right.
