M4/MP5 Menu Switch Ever Coming?

Hello,
I remember a LONG while back that there was "eventually" going to be the option to switch between the M4/MP5. However stats were of course the same and it was just going to be a menu option you would tick.

1.0 released and nothing still ever came of that. Did that idea get scrapped or?

I remember this too, it was years and years ago on the black mesa site or forums. I was interested for nostalgia reasons because I first played HL on the PS2 (which had the HD pack models) around 2002 before I bought the "half life generation" collection for PC which also included HD pack. So my first experience with Half Life was with the M4. I guess the idea got lost somewhere during the years in between.
