You can encounter some HECU soldiers doing things they didn't do in the default game and similar things you mentioned. Example:
-You can encounter a crying marine. He will be sitting with hands on his face and you can hear him sobbing. When you approach him, he will look at you for a brief moment and return to cry even louder. This one got me through heart even if it is unofficial. He's done, he will never see his family again, all of his friends that he knew for years are dead. And the one scientist in orange suit they were trying to kill since the beginning and that eliminated most of his friends is now standing right in front of him. But as i said, he is done, he is not going to shoot you. Judging by how he gave you that look, you can tell he is asking YOU to shoot him.
-Another marine you will see is right before the Gargantua Chase. He is bleeding from a heavy wound and will limp towards you and find a place to sit down. After that he will give you the look that basically reads "I don't care about anything anymore, i'm done with everything. Let me die in peace on my own here."
