intro put me to bed
i bought this yesterday and i tried playing it and the obnoxiously long intro ended up putting me to sleep when i woke up i tried to continue but found myself immediately lost. now i have 3 hours logged and cant refund it. my question is if this is indicative of the rest of the game?

edit: also this game looks like trash texture and animation wise, not sure what i expected but eh ig.

Give the game a chance. Once you're past the intro there isn't a long non-action scene until much later in the game. 99% of the time you will be spending on the game will be FPS doing shooting, solving puzzles and exploring.

The same sequence plays in the original game of Half-Life itself too, at pretty much exactly the same pace. Black Mesa is a remake of the original game from 1998, using the graphics engine from Half-Life 2 Episode 2, released in 2007. So the graphics are a little dated, but what they've done with the game in contrast to the original is spectacular. If you haven't played the original, Half-Life, you should maybe give that a shot first - at least the first half an hour - so you can compare it to Black Mesa.

That's the idea, employees are all bored with their lives going to work on the same tram with the same announcement. It's too immerse the players with the character so if you fall asleep during the intro, the immersion works.

Poor troll bait attempt, 3/10, wouldn't recommend.

I played Half-Life on release many years ago. The intro is maybe the only part that hasn't aged well. I didn't like the intro too but I'm glad I stuck with it. Once you get a couple weapons and start seeing more enemies and get harder "puzzles" the immersion really sets in.

I'm starting to remember a time when games were made for PC in mind and tried to push technology. The physics in this game is top notch and the graphics still compete with any AAA title. It's kind of amazing how much games have regressed, really. Thanks to consoles.

No, it is not indicative to the rest of the game.

Even if the original and this one tried tried to measure world building in the intro, not jumping into action directly is something that made some players wonder what the hell this was about.

Just go to menu, New game, and start in "anomalous materials" for more interactive part of this intro.

Want to go right into action? same steps, but with "unforenseen consequences". If you are ok with not appreciating the storytelling of the intros, start right here in the action. You can do them later in the next walktrought.

Half Life is a story game, not just a boring braindead fast paced shooter.

The intro sets the scene for a private research facility deep in the desert, doing questionable work. The rest unfolds from that.

I dunno I just never considered the intro to be bad at all. In fact I think it's great. Like starting a movie that you get to play. If you think it's boring your brain is probably only intelligent enough to handle boom boom pow pow punch punch, which is your problem, not ours.
