Ugly "potato" graphics with an RTX 2070

Hello,
The graphics of my game are ugly and reset all the time on "potato" setting and stay ugly.
It's not like I read on this forum on potato setting and beautiful in game.
I have a Nvidia RTX 2070 and this problem is new (probably with the last patch?)
I played this game last year on the same computer and everything was working perfectly...
I hope this problem will be solved :(

Verify intergrity of the game's files by going in Steam > Black Mesa > local files> verify game files. The problem is on your end.

Have a 2070 Super, on Ultra @ 1440p looks very nice

All my other AAA games also work wonderfully in ultra...

Nope, I have finish the game with the same laptop before the last patch last year and the game was working perfectly in ultra.
Like I said : all my games except Black Mesa are working in ultra (the AAA games work fine in ultra too)... All my drivers are update. the files are just clean and new on this computer. I have formated my computer to see ... no change.
And I see some people on steam have uninstall the game after trying to solve this with no solution.

Try -oldgameui as launch option on steam. i had the same problem, the menu needs to be fixed. It's bugged.

Does your laptop have integrated graphis too?

Could check NVidia Control Panel to see what Black Mesa is using.

Actually sounds to me like the game itself is detecting the hardware to be bad and adjusting its settings accordingly? I kind of remember it doing something like that yesterday. Apologies if I am wrong.

And? What you did more than a year ago is not relevant anymore. PCs and their software tend to stop working correctly over time without maintenance, settings may change. The game is working as it should for the overwhelming majority of people. Like I've suggested, verify intergrity of game files, check your Windows settings if your GPU is primary and not your integrated graphics.

And? What you did more than a year ago is not relevant anymore. PCs and their software tend to stop working correctly over time without maintenance, settings may change. No, I've already tried everything as I said, everything works perfectly on my computer except this game, I can play with all the new games on ultra.
I've already updated everything, looked at the Nvidia settings and it's my RTX card that is selected in for Black Mesa
It works for most people? : Cool, but if you check this forum, you will see a lot of people complaining for the same reason, trying to resolve the problem and not finding any solution...

Yes I have already check the Nvidia pannel and Black Mesa is using the RTX :(

Edit : with all the graphics at max on the old menu, the game stay ugly :(

Try choosing high instead of ultra, apply and quit the game, then reload again.

FWIW, When i was trying the new menu, a couple times i was able to get it working with everything on just high setting, i could hardly tell the difference between ultra in the old menu, and high in the new menu. So I agree with Cutrogue. Not enough difference to ruin the game.

Thank you, I have change the graphics to high in the old menu, I have change in the Nvidia panel texture filtering to "very high"(it was on "high"), and i have restart the game / change the graphic options to "very high" again in game, and the game look like better... In my memories it was prettier last year but it's really enough to play and enjoy the game for a second time :)

Edit: After this, I have try to launch the game with the new menu (with all graphics in ultra). The game has crashed, when I have relaunch, all the options was on ultra and the global quality was on potato ... I don't know how, but now the graphics are perfect whent it's on potato setting...

The "potato" is just a bug, it's actually it's on ultra.
