Blast pit chapter: How do I get past the tentacles?
It is said you have to crouch becasue they only hear but that is bs as I crouched and got pecked to death because they just went on a random pecking spree, any tips?

You get stocked up with satchels or grenades at the start of that stealth beatdown.
Use them wisely, throw them away from yourself at the blocked doors and watch a yt walkthrough.

As the above poster alluded to, throw grenades to cause a distraction and lure the tentacles away.

Stock up on grenades , throw them to the blast pit itself,it'll force tentacles to retract to lowest level for a limited time. Use this break to run through to both barricaded doors

You need to stock up on grenades and use them to distract the tentacles. Then activate the Oxygen, Fuel and Power to test fire the rocket, which kills the tentacles.

Grenades and Satchels distract the Tentacles (because they can hear them but not see what they are), and then allow you to sneak (or sprint if you like to live on the wild side) past him. Satchels can be really useful on this bit as you can place them on your level and then detonate them when you move to another level, for an easy, quick distraction. Or just toss a grenade onto a different level.
Thanks for all your comments, they've really helped, thanks alot!

Forget about stealth.. just throw grenades and run for it... Just keep throwing them and the beast will be busy.

Also, FWIW, it is possible to drop from the hole on the second floor(behind the first/higher barricaded door), to the lower floor, and without taking fall damage(I believe you have to drop down facing a particular direction to do so, or else you'll just fall into the lower hole). That could save you some time/effort(on the way down, at least).

HL1's Tentacles were almost harmless so long as you held crouch(walking, i.e. holding Shift, also worked as long as you didn't press more than one movement key at once; e.g. W + A or D), and didn't touch/bump into a vertical wall(for some reason GoldSrc seemed to treat that as 'making a really loud noise'). OTOH, I kind of feel like they seemed more 'alive'. They were 'idle' a lot more, and that let them show off a little personality as a creature(getting 'bored', 'looking' around, 'yawning'(roaring?), idly pecking at whatever's in front of them without being in full-on 'alert mode'), being one of the very few aliens you could properly 'observe' without being charged/shot/spit at.
