On A Rail Mission Bugged (Possible Spoilers)
There's a part in the "On a Rail" mission where you are riding the train car through an underground rail system. Eventually, the train car stops right in front of an electrified pool of water in a pit about 15 feet below the train car, which has ladders going up/down into the pit.
Of course, you're supposed to turn the electricity off in the water with a nearby switch... which enables you to get down into the pool of water to get a plug that you plug into an emergency override plug so you can proceed.

I've been searching through the water in that pool looking for the plug and it wasn't there. So I looked up a video of someone else playing this mission and saw where they found the plug. And when I go to that area of the pool to find the plug dangling down in the water, I see the cord going right into the pavement at the bottom of the pool, and no plug is visible or grabbable by my character using the "E" key to grab/use an item.

It's like the plug somehow fell through the pavement at the bottom of the pool and is no longer visible or grabbable. So then I loaded a previous save at the start of this mission and worked my way back to the pool. The plug is still not visible.

So I guess I can't complete the mission (or the game).

edit: restarting the mission a third or fourth time seems to have fixed it. The plug was there at the bottom of the pool this time.

I have reloaded several save games I had available, which are all pretty close to this spot, several times now and the plug is always glitched through the floor.
Is there really no fix other than me replaying half the game? Really annoying!

Starting a new game on the chapter is possible instead of replaying the entire game.

I managed to get it fixed somehow and finish the game, but this was while ago. I think I had to start that particular chapter from the beginning again to get it working but I don't really remember.

How? I do not find any options to select specific chapters in the game. And the autosaves were either right where this glitch is and reloading over and over again did not change anything, or one other really really far back right when the military first shows up. And that I would say means I have to replay half the game.

I think people are trying to tell you to reload the CHAPTER to play it again, not anything in your autosaves or your personal saves. So you shouldn't have to replay the whole game, just that particular chapter of the game.

Again: How should I do that? I do not see any options in the game to reload a chapter. I either can start a new game, or resume a game and start from a save game.... that is it.

You practically start a new game from the On a Rail chapter. It's not that confusing. If it's locked type sv_unlockedchapters 15 to the console to unlock it.

What sensible human being would suspect the option to choose a chapter, that contains the saved health and ammo and everything, under "New Game"? Cause it literally is not a new game, but you CONTINUE how you started the chapter and thus is a saved game.
But yes, found it, thanks.

Choosing a chapter IS a new game, it comes with default ammo and always health 100.
ahellofazell Sep 25, 2021 @ 12:12pm
Even with default ammo and health, it is debatable whether it can be called a "new game", if you re-play a chapter. Cause "New Game" can be understood as a fresh start with nothing unlocked and from the beginning. Obviously you can justify to put chapters under new game, but that does not make it sensible per se.

Hello.

Yeah, that "debate" makes no sense. Starting a new chapter is essentially starting a new game on that chapter. That is what matters, that is what makes sense. No need to create an issue where there does not need to be one.

Since the topic veered off-topic anyway, I will close this.

Thanks for understanding.
