Are they ever going to truly fix the Linux build of Black Mesa?
Constant stutters, crashes every 15 minutes or so, missing textures and lighting. Really they should not be advertising this game with Linux support if its in this bad of a state.

I have no problems with the game just some random lag spikes. I have nvidia and people say that the latest 460 drivers cause thislag. Havent downgraded yet tho.

I haven't noticed any problems with the actual gameplay. But it doesn't save the video settings when I change them, and any attempt to try changing them back to what I need results in the game crashing.

I have horrible lag. Typically when I first launch the game it runs fine until I get to the first Loading... part, then it becomes too slow to play, like framerate less than 1 fps. Until the first Loading... it runs smoothly even in 4K so i know it's not a problem with my hardware. If I detune the graphics to horribly low setting like 800x600 then this problem doesn't occur. But I think this is still not good. What van i do? Any suggestions?

I use linux. Nvidia 1060 with 3GB. Don't tell me my video card is bad, i know it's good. Until the frst Loading... part.

So wait, are you trying to play the game at 4K on a 1060? The 1060 really isnt made for that high of a resolution.

It's not like the Windows version is bug free either, judging by the posts in the general discussion. But 3 GB Video RAM is probably not enough for 4K. The dynamic shadows and lighting also needs a lot resources, lowering these might help.

It's not about lowering the settings. The shader is actually broken on the Linux build. I think I might email VALVE about this in particular, as the game should not be considered compatible with the Steam Deck if these major yet basic features do not render properly. Other SD owners who are considering buying this game are therefore being misled. You'd think VALVE would hold the runtime reliability of paid works using their licensed IP on Linux to a higher standard..

Valve has been slipping lately. Personally they've lost my trust

2 years later, and it's still broken. I don't think they have any plans to. They advertise this game being native to Linux on the store page, but their lazy port works worse than Proton does for most games. I can't even beat the game it's so bad. Stuck in the first 5 min of Xen
I know it's not a fix, but does anyone know if the memory crashes with Proton are related to RAM or VRAM? Because if it's RAM I wonder if just adding more RAM to your system would solve the issue. I have 16GB and I SHOULD be able to run the game with no problems but I wonder if I would have experienced less crashes with 32GB RAM
