[SPOILER] - What is the point of the final choice?
After beating the NIHILANTH you get teleported into a monorail wagon moving in deep space (or something) with G-man proposing you to work with him: if you accept the game ends and G-man congratulates with you, if you refuse the wagon crashes in front of an alien soldiers platoon, causing your death.

Cool, but what's the point of implementing this choice? From the beginning of Half Life 2 it is already clear what choice G. Freeman made ...

Howdy!

Because you are not truly given a choice. Based on G-man's final words in Half-Life 2: Rather than offer you the illusion of free choice, I will take the liberty of choosing for you... if and when your time comes round again.

Thanks for understanding.

That's what I was about ... we all guessed what "G-man has chosen for me" from the beginning of Half Life 2 so this very last scene developers have put doesn't have much sense imo

If by developers you mean BM devs, that's just being true to Half-Life 1. If anything, one could imagine Gordon still fighting for his own survival when he goes with the other option. (There's even a mod that covers this, in fact)

Because it was in the original game before half-life 2 was created?

There's a mod the for original HL called 'Anti-climax' that you might want to check out. :^)

An over arching theme of the games is how the theoretical physicist doesn't really ever have a choice. Heralded as a hero while being led by the noes by some unknown force is one of the more interesting parts of the story in my opinion. It fits really well into the gameplay of the series and adds another layer to the events. Everyone you kill or save, every mountain you climb was not your choice, but G-Man and his employers. Cool philosophical implications!

There is no point. It was in the original game and back then it was a "cool" thing to have a choice at the end. Valve didn't know where this was going or how successful it would be.
