I'm stuck
I never use cheats or walk throughs but I'm stuck early on in the office complex. I never got trapped in halflife. I see a way out but I previously broke what I needed to get out (trying to avoid spoilers)

Can your choice of actions in BM lead you to be trapped?

Should I keep trying or start over?

Howdy!

Where are you stuck at?

Thanks.

After getting off the elevator. I ended up saving the guard and gained access to the security locker. There is an area through an airshaft that goes to a compartment with a barred gate. Can't bust the air vents or open the 2 doors. Starting to think that might be the other way out- or why would it even be there. The only thing I did there was pick up some amo off a dead guard. Should I keep trying to get out that way?

Howdy again!

You are not the first to be stuck here! No sweat. Hopefully, I understand where you are stuck at. You should have found a shotgun and other items lying around.

What you have to do is head through the flooded office and find the vent that will lead you forward.

Thanks for understanding.

i find in games like hl2 series and resident evils any game that lets you save independantly save while in good health etc after killing something then if you get killed further after saving you can load previous save i i avoid games were you have to do a lot before an automatic save blade runner 1

Okay, I'll check that out.

(spoilers)

I got the shotgun but broke the crates in the security locker. Now I can see an open air vent above the doorway but I have nothing to stack to crawl out. What's weird is the loading bay down the ladder just outside the locker. Been down there and found nothing but there should be a way to open the opposing big doors. I'm going to keep trying.

That vent leads nowhere and in fact that area is entirely optional. You need to return to the area before, around where you started that level, and break the glass to get into a room with electrified water.

There are so much more environment detail put into these levels which makes progression a bit more frustrating as you try to open doors or break obstacles that are just props that lead nowhere.
Originaly, all doors would react with a sound that hint to the fact they are locked or blocked if they don't simply look like they're blocked or locked (red lights, debris, barricade ...).
And because the main and original way of progression is throgh a broken window, which is a first for many players, it is then normal for the OP to feel stuck as he/she expected it to be the main path. Especially since there was a scripted event.

I think that to make it more obvious that this is a dead end, a few more edits should be put in place. If you saved the guard, have him comment that you should head back to the offices to look for other survivors. Alternativelly, add some pickups like a battery and a flashlight near the vent in the flooded room so that people understand that it's an option.

The only thing I miss in this level is the box puzzle but i'm a weird platformer lover.

Are you using the enemies+ mod?
Suggestion to OP: Look for "Black Mesa walkthrough" videos on Youtube, if you're careful about navigating the videos to not go past the point you reached in the game you needn't spoil anything for yourself. Being stuck in a FPS for an extended time because you can't find something is the opposite of fun.

I realize this is contrarian to what you stated in the OP, but as I used to think like you and it was not worth it. A properly viewed walkthrough of a linear game doesn't spoil anything.

Yeah I started the office complex over and went back to where I got the shotgun. There were no crates to stank and in fact the the vent above the doorway was broken by a head crab dropping in.

Yeah it's no fun being stuck but I never used walk throughs in Half-Life and I don't want to use them in Black Mesa. I originally wanted to know If my game play got me stuck.

That looks like a window I couldn't break with the crowbar. I'll have another look. Thanks

Howdy!

This is where you have to go. Let us know if you managed to get through!

Thanks for understanding.
