Black Mesa. Half-Life barely had any. You get a lot more music in Black Mesa and the soundtrack seems a lot more inspired by Half-Life 2... so it feels it represents the mood of HL better than the original did.
The only issue I have with Black Mesa's Soundtrack is that some of the tracks can be annoyingly dramatic when it doesn't need to be such as destroying the tentacle and/or during Xen especially when you reach the elevator or dealing with the Gonarch.
Half-Life had two good riffs. Diabolical Adrenaline Guitar and Adrenaline Horror. Other than that Black Mesa has a much better sound track
the original was good for what it was, but Black Mesa's soundtrack is wayyyyy superior. Adds a ton to the environment and feel.
In my opinion, even though it's rough, I prefer Half-Life's soundtrack. Black Mesa's soundtrack doesn't evoke the same creepy, unnerving vibe that Bailey's music did AND its more consistent with the sequel. Even something as straight forward as an electric guitar riff had some amount of colorful weirdness to it due to the heavy distortions that Bailey used, that same personality just isn't present in Black Mesa. Like Xen for example, though I like the Black Mesa versions music, just doesn't feel that threatening due in part to the music. My heart sank (in a good way) the first time I landed in Xen in the original because your trapped on a floating island in a completely alien world and the music is reinforcing the fact that you shouldn't be there.

Half-Life without a doubt
Half life ambience was more ominous and good for the hallway bits, but black mesa overall had the better vibe. BMs OST made me think that Gordon is sleeping in one of the HL2 episodes and hes having flashbacks to the Black Mesa Incident, the music conveys emotions of sorrow and remorse or melancholy of a past event IMO (Which adds to the feel of the story greatly to me).

I'll agree with that, Half-Life was more atmospheric while Black Mesa is more intense.
Id recommend checking out the playlist in spotify, a few songs that were never used which I really wish they used in BM, like Blast Pit 2 which my god; it sounds so filled with regret and sorrow as if someone is looking back at a terrible moment in their life. such a masterpiece imo. if there was a mod to add more ambience to BM I would download it if its done right.
Half-Life for its Diabolical Adrenaline Guitar and Adrenaline Horror. Also, Alien Forces from Opposing Force/Blue Shift is better.... but HDTF is the real winner in soundtrack.
I find Black Mesa's soundtrack better.
Black Mesa; especially the Ascension ost from the Xen level is epic
Half-Life feel more industrial
BM is not quite so
Black Mesa. It elevates this game to a sophistication it otherwise does not deserve.
The Kelly Bailey original.. the BMS ost pre Xen is just wrong in my opinion.. particularly right after the resonance cascade.. in the original they get it spot on with that 'GONG' sound.. it feels like a disaster all around you.. in Black Mesa it's like this over the top, sad sound and the vibe is more like 'oh no what a tragedy'.. like come on this isn't Titanic. Freeman's gonna be stood atop the anti mass spectrometer going "I'm king of the world !" .. and the xen soundtrack, although it's absolutely beautiful, is too OTT for half life. I have to workshop the main ost or I can't play the game.
