I'm pretty sure the old Mod version of Black Mesa is long gone from official sources. Try searching "Black Mesa Source Mod" and maybe you can find the old version elsewhere.
If that doesn't work, explain your problem more thoroughly.
I think he's trying to install the old mod version of Black Mesa. The one that was available before the devs were selling it on Steam.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods
(And yes, I once got this to work on an external hard drive).
Restart steam and it should show up as black mesa:source 2012 or something like that.
The game does not like source SDK 2013 for some reason, even though I feel like that version is more stable than the 2007 version.
Part 1 of 2. Instructions: Once part 1 and 2 have been downloaded rename the files to include this format blackmesa.zip.001 for part one and blackmesa.zip.002 for part 2. Extract and copy files into sourcemods/BMS in your steamapps directory.
