Oh yeah, I forgot about the Beretta 9mm model sharing the same pool with the M4, in the updated models. Separate the ammo pools between the guns then.
I know, you can do a lot with firearms even go to the hardware store and figure a way to make your very own custom parts and assemblies for a receiver. But how can you NOT figure why fitting a 203 or any launcher to an MP5 is just impractical?
MP5 is strictly for when you need limited range, limited penetration. That was not part of their mission requisite. So you go with a limited range low penetration alternative to strap a grenade launcher to it? Why? It would be strictly special purpose a purpose they didn't have.
Also I think it would be more practical to fit the M203 to 9mm AR15 SMG because the parts would be more common as well as optics and such. The parts are more common and rigging an M203 to Colt 9mm SMG would simply make more sense because the assemblies and custom options would be the same.
Also between the M4 Commando and the Colt 9mm SMG. Having handled and used both of them. The M4 Commando larger than the 9mm but not by much. When it comes to length and handling they're about the same.
but.. the HECU of half life like a more personal approach where they rappel down a heli directly on Gordon's head to shoot their smg with grenade thrower. deal with it
I know there's a custom assembly for an MP5. I also know if I wanted to I could use some whatever parts to modify a Colt 203 assembly to custom fit it to an MP5 and several other carbines. Would not be difficult.
For a scenario if you wanted something 9mm short range and limited penetration with a launcher to deploy gas or flashbangs or other special purpose grenades an MP5 with a launcher would be dandy.
BUT here in this game it just does NOT make sense. They're not taking a limited force nor non-lethal approach, they're carrying explosive rounds. It's seek and destroy, not pacify.
ALSO if you're going to attach a 203 to an MP5 why not go with the longer barrel upper assembly too? Could mount it easier and the added barrel would increase range, accuracy and power.
Whatever though, like most players would ever consider which weapons would be best for which application and why it doesn't and wouldn't make any sense.
When they went over to the HD pack they must have chosen the M4 because it makes sense.
Think Opposing Fronts model is an M4, and guess logic there, other than M4A1 looks bad ass, is that just an M4 with a special ops conversion kit to use 9mm parabellum rounds for purpose of more efficient close quarters combat/going up agaisnt light armored civilians most pa-No it just looks badass and maybe Gearbox thought like us Valve was silly to use MP5 in first place.
Maybe just two different military units too, one Shepard is a part of uses converted M4A1's(or glocks to 5.56? xD) while unit that went in first was equiped with MP5's and prototype underbarrel launchers for them? As for sharing ammo thing with pistol, that was ingrained in shooters back when Half Life came out from Wolfenstein and Doom (luger and mp40 or w/e, and minigun and pistol are both 10mm in doom), concept of having diff calibre guns in a shooter didn't really see in mainstream rail shooters, more SOCOM territory back then, but then games like STALKER imo blend action elements of game like Half Life with realism of games like SOCOM perfectly and thats why today people are confused as ♥♥♥♥ as to why and how that MP5 under barrel is in game at all lol Guess point being, we take for granted casual realism in shooters today, back then unless were gun nerd no one gave a ♥♥♥♥ or thought about it.
