Questionable Ethics Lobby Battle
Was the battle this poorly designed in the original Half Life? I don't have the ammo or health/charge to keep up with their sheer numbers, especially since each individual enemy require a full magazine to get rid of. Seems to me like the gunplay of HL1 is rather overrated, and it's only considered good because all the enemies are OP relative to the player

There wasn't a lobby battle in the OG. Use the magnum to kill the first two guys that drop down with headshots, quickly get onto the counter and grab the full stack of MP5 grenades, then stay moving. If you try to take cover, you'll get murdered very, very quickly. Also throw out your snarks once you've killed a couple of them. They help immensely, same with satchels. Really, make use your whole arsenal, not just one gun, and you'll get through it.

On normal ("Black Mesa"), HECU guys die to 8 bullets in the torso, not a whole magazine. Spraying and praying with the MP5 isn't a smart idea unless you can actually control the recoil.

I will add that the fight is still incredibly difficult, even with the addition of the grenade stack on the counter, but now it's doable, compared to before.

Oh I beat the lobby battle, just having 6 health by the time I was done. Would be nice if the enemies didn't have auto aim and had to reload once in a while like I do though

In the original Half Life there wasn’t a lobby gun fight. Second what difficulty are you playing on?

They don't have autoaim and they do need to reload, but they fire in bursts unless you're close or out in the open. HECU are very similar in their AI behavior to crytek operatives from crysis 2 and 3.

The guys in the skylight are the worst IMO. Don't forget about them or they will keep putting holes in you when you think you are behind cover. Crossbow is handy.

The canyon is also quite unfair, with enemies that shoot me from hundreds of feet below me and through walls

They took a chapter that was already a slog in the original and made it even more of a slog now lol

The fight would be alot better without them, they just restrict movement.

They're a non-factor, really. You shouldn't be fighting out in the open, but under the overhang. Get to the counter, kill two or three guys, grab the MP5 grenades, then go back.
