Black Mesa Lag?

I've had severe lagging issues in Black Mesa, it runs fine sometimes (60-120 fps) then goes into the 40s randomly, and when a lot is happening on screen. No matter what graphic setting it's on(Potato or Ultra), it lags in the exact same places. I really like the game, but it's frustrating to play it with this performance.

Specs: Ryzen 1600, RX 580, 16 GB RAM

check some threads hitting 100% usage as the camera is panned and fps is the lowest

The higher the resolution, the more you nullify the bottleneck. You'll get lower frames overall obviously, but the gpu will maintain usage better, if not peg at 100%. If you only have a 1080 res screen, enable DSR in the nvidia control panel and run 1440 or 4k if you can.

These two things worked for me and fixed up my Frame Rate to be a buttery smooth 60 FPS.

First, I found playing in Stereo/Headphones was causing completely random Frame Rate drops to 30-40 FPS across 4-5 seconds. By changing my audio to 4 Speakers or 5.1 or 7.1, all the Frame Rate drops disappeared. I'm guessing there's an issue with the game in stereo mode.

Second, if you have an nVidia graphics card, add -forceuid3d9 to the game launch options in Steam. (The new UI runs on Directx 11 while the actual game runs on DirectX 9, but this seems to cause issues for a majority of people. Adding that command forces the new UI to run on DirectX 9 and eliminates the frame rate issues and CTD's).

@lewk, thank you, hours of messing about, googling were solved by adding -forceuid3d9 i couldn't understand why in 4k or 1080p i was seeing frametimes of upwards of 100ms sometimes when turning the POV and framerate drops from 230+fps to 35fps. This solved most of it.

I came here seeking an answer, and came upon this. I was running the game on potato mode. Reading through here, I tried to put everything on ultra and it is now way smoother. That is stupid.
