I just tested it for you and answer appears to be no, so its not DRM Free.

Dang. Thanks though. I'll still get it at some point but just wanted to know.

Most games on steam require steam to be running for it to work, afaik there's no source engine game that doesn't require steam running. Don't see why having steam running is an issue.

I prefer DRM Free games, that's why. Half-Life Source, Half-Life 2 (plus episode 1 and 2), Portal, and apparently Alyx are playable outside of Steam.

Alyx Needs steam VR, which afaik needs steam to be running.

Well, if other source games can do it it would be a nice thing to have in BM too.

The original post was on April Fool's, but due to Poe's law, it is difficult to tell the intentions of the OP. That being said, why does it matter if steam is running while your game is running?

Especially a source engine game.

Er... this was not an April Fools joke. I also mentioned already that I really prefer DRM Free games where I am not having to be tied to client forever and have to be periodicly connected to the internet just to be able to play. It's why I like GOG so much.

Almost all source games that aren't multiplayer-focused run fine without Steam. Apart from achievements and multiplayer there's no need for it - it's just added complexity and cpu cycles, as well as BLINXERIZER's points.

If steam is adding 'complexity and cpu cycles' for anyone, they maybe shouldn't be doing any modern gaming on whatever block of cheese they are using.

Counter example : Vindictus (a free to play that use source engine)

No, but you can play in offline mode forever.
