Interloper Corrosive Barrel "Puzzle" Hints/Level Design problems

There is a puzzle in Interloper that relies on you picking up some corrosive barrels from a river over a little water fence, to break a wall.
The problem I found with it is that the game does not tell you that you can pick them up. I spent about an hour running around, trying to push them over until finally, in a stroke of genius and madness, I tried presing "E", and lo and behold, I picked it up. Pushed it over the fence, and let it float to the wall I had to break.

Now I might be an idiot, but I had no idea that you could pick those up, and the game doesn't really tell you. Usually, either it looks very obviously light, and it gives you the hint of picking it up, or an earlier puzzle makes it obvious that you need to pick it up. But neither of these things happen.
I believe that redesigning the level a bit so that it looks obvious to pick it up, or changing the barrel texture to make it look lighter, give it handles, whatever, would improve the game.

In any case, if someone is stuck like I was, you can pick them up.

There's a bunch of them earlier that you have to carry over a crossing in a river, so it's established that you can carry them. Also, if you handle them poorly, they explode, and do about 75% armor and 40% HP damage to you, so don't do that.

A lot of the time during that particular part you're at, the barrels miss the hole they're supposed to fall into, so there will be some rolling around. A bigger issue is that there's no real clue telling you that you should take it into the water, put it inside the cylinder, make it melt the top plate that's not green, like all other grates and stuff the green barrels melt, then you get sucked into the next part of the level.

Actually I found those puzzles very obvious and well hinted at.

Interesting, I somehow managed to skip that part that you had to carry them, maybe that's worth looking into? Since I had not carried them before, weird. Well thanks for the sharing info!

Because they are alien? Maybe it's not a barrel, maybe its a florgplotron-3000, a deviced used by bored aliens for personal pleasure and gain. I don't wanna touch that.
