Xen itself is incredibly impressive with all the lighting set to max, but often crashes between level transitions.
I did notice FPS went from 90-200 up and down in the first mins of Xen for me at 1400p with all those setting MAX'd.
Intel 4970k @ 5GHZ + Titan Xp (2017) so shouldn't be issue as good single core perf and plenty of VRAM.
Lighting and shadows, especially shadows, are incredibly demanding, no matter how primitive the game is. This game is a prime example of how demanding shadows that aren't blobs actually are.
Once in Xen, the game starts playing not only with shadows from actors, but light sources from the 'suns' and the shadows themselves. It's very, very demanding. Strong CPU overclocks and high VRAM (8+ gigs) will eliminate it, but if you don't have that, you're better off turning stuff down. I go from 380 FPS to 110~ in the first part of Xen, but I play on, uhhh, let's say really silly settings,
