Can't see in vents? Any help would be appreciated.
My computer meets the recommended requirements to run the game and it works just fine, except for when I am in the vents, I cant see anything.

Even with my flashlight on, it doesn't look like the flashlight is doing anything, it isn't lighting the vent up and I cannot see the red lights in the vents either. I adjusted my brightness and tinkered with the graphics setting but nothing seems to make a difference.

Can anyone offer any help on this? I have adjusted my monitor settings as well. When I watch playthroughs of the game online, when they traverse the vents they are clearly lit and mine is pitch black once i'm in. I couldn't find any help online.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have not, I will do this. Would this lighting problem normally arise from such a thing?

Is the rest of the game very dark as well?

Im pretty sure you have the "overdark glitch", Its pretty simple to fix, you can find a way to fix it by just typing blackmesa overdark glitch in google or whatever search engine your using, or you could search for a fix by using steams topic search.

Always post system specs.

If your flashlight works everywhere else except in the vent it is probably a known issue.

Fixes and the problems they fix to follow in the next couple of posts.

If you have the overdark glitch. Game starts out normal brightness but turns very dark in 2-3 seconds.

To fix the OverDark glitch Type (or copy/paste) the following two commands into the console

mat_hdr_level 2
mat_tonemapping_occlusion_use_stencil 1

Enable the console in the advanced keyboard options.
To access the Black Mesa console go to the Options menu, then select Keyboard, then Advanced. Check the developer console option.
Press the tilde "~" key and the developer console should appear.
The tilde key ~ is the first key in the numbers row.

ps
It will need to be entered every time, Unless you add it to an autoexec

Do you have any mods installed?

If you hear a noise when you press F to activate the flashlight but no light appears, then you need to do this;

Here is how to fix the flashlight.

Add these commands to game launch options:

-force_vendor_id 0x10DE -force_device_id 0x1180 -dxlevel 95

Remove "-dxlevel 95" after you close the game or your settings will reset every time you run the game.

Here's how to add commands to the launch options
Right-click on the game title under the Library in Steam and select Properties.
Under the General tab click the Set launch options ... button.
Enter the launch options you wish to apply (be sure to separate each code with a space) and click OK.
Close the game's Properties window and launch the game.
