The soldiers in real life don’t want to die either. Black Mesa is just copying reallity, except in the real world you don’t get to pick an easier difficulty level.

Old enough to know how not to get shot lol

It's been a while, but I don't think so. From what people have said here the soldiers used to stop firing when moving, taking cover, communicating, etc., whereas now they shoot constantly. They have pretty absurd accuracy too. Same goes for the black ops and helicopters.

I think it could do with a bit of fine tuning to be honest. :)

Half-Life HECUs never did suicidal zerg rushes, nor did they have sniper accuracy while shooting on the move. They also almost never use grenades, or at least don't know when to. And, if anything, it's the helicopters that should have the worst accuracy of them all, because heli guns aren't suit to be used as sniper rifles against single infantry target due to high inertia of the gun itself and the high velocity of the copter (like it was in Half-Life 2, btw - most of the first shots went to the ground nearby).

Another issue no one seems to mention is absurdly low reload time of a tank. AFAIK even with autoloaders there's no tank able to shoot it's main gun every 2 seconds (that's just physically impossible), as there's also no tank which projectile a human being would be able to dodge from 30 meters away. I'd rather prefer it shooting every 8-10 seconds with unavoidable shell like a real tank would, because, well, you aren't supposed to be able to confront the tank in the open field and survive.

P.S.

Obviously not old enough to know how to behave like a decent human being.

I don't have any problems with them, so therefore the problem is on your end. Hence: git gud

If BM soldiers copied their real life counterparts, they'd try to use their numerical advantage more, don't you think? Like using covering fire of 2 SMGs to allow their fellows to close in on your position, throwing at least a couple grenades that land on 2 different spots but close to each other so that at least one hits you when you run away, etc. Even generally throwing one behind corners and not just storming through like a brainwashed junkies. With all these implemented, I'd be ready to believe that they _actually_ don't want to die. As they are right now, not a chance.

Soldiers where always fairly hard, but for different reasons. The HL marines seemed to have a bit of strategy to them, flanking, and doing things like that. But they'd also be trickable, it wasnt hard to get them to run at you around the corner and into a tripmine or whatever. These soldiers are both a bit stupider, but also tougher in some ways too, in that they seem to land all their shots and rush you a bit more (but annoyingly not around corners?)

The soldiers were always annoying. I remember at the time, coming back fresh from Goldeneye 007 on N64 a year later in which the soldiers react to your shots with precise hit detection, Half-Life soldiers felt very outdated with soldiers that ignore bullets until their health reaches zero...

Are they insanely difficult? Yes.
Basicly you'll have to use cover to the maximum of your capabilities and get creative with guns at your disposal. Shotguns are pure bull on them but you'll have to get used to it. If you're looking for a challange you'll get it alright.

Helicopter on the dam section is cancer. Had to cheese Ichtyosaur to have a fighting chance since Heli can decimate you even 15 feet under water surface.

Honestly on hard difficulty, it's all about going room by room, dying, memorizing and repeating until you're satisfied with resources expended.

Gotta be quicker OP

Soldiers are a good challenge but those assassins are straight up unfair. You have to hide behind an object and wait for them to come to you and shotgun them, otherwise you stand no chance.

True, the soldiers do more damage and move faster than i expected. Even on "easy" they wont go easy down.

I'd like to see something like MMod for Black Mesa with bullet ballistics.

In Half Life Source they're worst.

I ran in circles putting tripmines behind me. Worked, but their magical precision with shooting will chew some hp and armor.
