Frame stuttering issue
I've been constantly running into a frame stuttering issue. Whenever I start up a new map, the frames will begin to stutter every 5 seconds or so. I've tried everything from lowering the graphics settings, to turning off autosave, to capping the fps at 60, but the only solution I've found is switching the game's resolution to another and then back again; and I have to do this each time I enter a new map.

Has anyone else had this issue, and has anyone else found a more convenient fix for it?

Serious driver issues...

No VRAM is being detected and no interface shows up.

I think I'm having a similar issue. Sometimes a map will load and it will literally run at like 8 fps, but then if I die and the map reloads or if I restart the game, it goes back to the 50-60 fps range.

I think that's just an issue with Steam analyzing the hardware. DirectX Diagnostic Tool says I have 2028 MB of VRAM

playing in windowed mode fixed the stuttering for me

I was playing in windowed mode initially, and thought switching over to fullscreen would help; and I thought it did for a while, until it started happening again. Even when I leave it on a non-native resolution, it still happens unless I change it over to a different one upon loading a new map

What the Steam Diagnostics see is what a typical game also sees, which is why the diagnostics was included.

Something is amiss with your drivers.

Hey,
Can you double check if your problem coincides with our problem as described in this thread: https://steamcommunity.com/app/362890/discussions/0/1753525797597776903/#c1753525797598930708

It's a frame rate bug. the command above worked for me. I had to limit the frame rate to 30.
However, doing that requires getting the console to launch first (prior to loading any save game!)

To load the console (if the console has not been enabled before)
Right click on Black Mesa in your library. Go to properties, then SET LAUNCH OPTIONS button. Type in the textbox: -console
Console should appear once you launch the game. Once the level fully loads, type bind p toggleconsole]

To limit the frame rate:
type in the console: fps_max 30

Done.

So, developers. There is a bug. Please take care of it. I paid you.

@ chrisdealemania
The developers would probably find your information to be more useful if you posted your system specs, driver settings, and in-game settings as not everyone seems to experience what the people in these threads have described.

Also, if you haven't yet, try playing the beta version as it's the release candidate and has changes from the current public branch.

In xen I had a similar issue, but it was just my laptop over heating, threw a fan under it and had no issues since.

So I tried using both the beta version and setting fps_max to 30 in the developer console, and neither seemed to fix my issue.

For what it's worth, I'm stuttering approximately every 5 seconds, rather than 3

I hate people who comment that have no idea what they're talking about.
Him having a laptop has nothing to do with the games stutter problem.
Who ever says that is just plain STUPID and highly uneducated.

I remember dealing with a similar issue on fallout 3 and new vegas, along with other games.
Havok is a physics engine. Everything within the game that involves physics has a Frame limit.
Fallout three's havok engine had a problem when the game hit 1fps above 60fps the game will stutter. when the game hits 61fps or even 62fps the games physics will cause the game to drop fps and correct itself.

Well this is all good information and everything but how do you fix it ?
The main goal is to prevent the game from hitting 61fps.
That means you will need a few programs to cap the fps at 59fps.

There are lots of videos on what to do and how to do it. So STFU to any who says its thermal, oh he has a laptop, Oh its his hardware. GOD FACEPALM - ANNOYING..... --__--

Everything that i typed is not absolute, but all theoretical.

Back to topic, away from childish behavior comments.

Ive also noticed that the areas that have steam, mist, or lots of lighting tend to drop fps.
