Black Mesa

Black Mesa

View Stats:
Using controller framerate drops from 180fps to 45fps.
Using a PS4 controller with the black mesa config for it and I get 45fps in game, If i turn off controller I get 170-180

Playing at 4k with a 2080ti.

Any ideas, I play on my couch on my big screen and really prefer to play with controller.

Hm, I only heard that there is a setting:

Library > Black Mesa > Properties > GENERAL
At the bottom:
"Steam Input Per-Game Setting (Requires restart of game)"
FORCED OFF
This setting should be valueable, but I am unsure if this has negative impact on the controller.

I personally play only 3rd-person games like Mad Max with my Xbox 360 controller.
Haven't tried yet if "FORCED OFF" also disallows any controller input.
But I think this settings is actually new as I previously haven't seen it and was able to play Mad Max very well with Controller on 4K.

Yet it was reported turning this setting to "FORCED OFF" increases frames.

So maybe a weird setting is loaded and hopefully your PS4 controller works with "FORCED OFF" too. :/

yeah I disable steam controller input and the frame rate is around 200ish but yeah then it disables controller input.

Is there any official controller support planned to come when the game is done, If so I will just wait for the final game. bummer I was looking forward to going back through HL

I am actually wondered if this may either be an issue in other games.

As I said this setting appears to be new. oO

If it's a general problem, then this has to be fixed somewhere else.
Otherwise the devs have to look into it.

No this setting has been around you have always been able to override the defaults for steam controller input for years. I play almost exclusively with controller and this is the first game I have had this issue with. Boggles my mind.

Thanks for confirming this.
I was worried about as I am occasionally used to play specific games with controllers only.
But games like this I mostly play with mouse and keyboard so it may not affect me...

Yet it's surely bad that this affects you. :steamsad: :taikisad:
I hope the devs can fix this issue in the Xen update. :)

I prefer to play with DS4Windows instead of bigpicture. It's better and allows you to bind gyro movements, top, left and right sides of the touchpad and more...
Bigpicture seemed buggy to me, it's interface drained some fps and i had some issues with diagonal movements of the sticks...

Does the framerate improve immediately when controller is switched off in BM console?
Dan Longman Jan 3, 2019 @ 4:19am
Yup. Even if I just turn off controller itself framerate immediately improves

Black Mesa is not the only game with this issue according to this reddit.

I also posted a comment in the BMS forums linking the first time it was mentioned in this forum, I will add this thread to that post.

It will be interesting to find out what causes it.
Is it an issue with devs and their implementation?
Is it drivers and user builds.
or Is it a bug with Steam.
hopefully time will tell
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
