Failed to create decoder for MP3 [ music\bms - inbounda.ogg ]
Hello everybody,

unfortunately my music is broken. I have tried all the steps mentioned in various threads:
- Installing all the C++ Packages with the Multipack Installer - as for 2010 it's x86 10.0.40219.473
- Deactivating Cloud Sync for Black Mesa
- Uninstalling Black Mesa
- Nuking all related files
- Reinstalling Black Mesa
- Adding the +snd_restart as Launch Option

The weird thing is that I sometimes have music in the starting environment of the game, sometimes not and never when I play. I startet a new game with Black Mesa Inbound a dozen times yet always the same failure shows up in the console:
Failed to create decoder for MP3 []

My system:
Windows 10 Pro 1809
i7-7700K 4,20 GHz
16.0 GB DDR4 RAM 3200 MHz
Geforce GTX 1060 6GB
Asus Z270G Motherboard

Help would be great since I have no idea what to do since the OS has also been reinstalled recently.

Sounds like you've been trying my recommendations.
I wish I had something else to suggest.

Thank you for your reply! That is exactly what I did.
Now it gets even more irritating. I played a bit and when I reached the elevator
in „We’ve got hustles” the music tuned in and it kept fading in and out as it used to be.
Now I am almost finished with “on a rail“ and the music is just fine.... BUT
Being happy with the current state I started „Anomalous Materials“ to check if I had music when putting the HEV-Suit on... NO MUSIC same failure shown in the console.
It seems as if the first few tracks cause issues and the others won’t.
Are there any technical differences between those tracks?
Maybe this could be of interest to the developers?

Delete 9 soundcache files from the bms folder and then put +snd_restart at launch options . That worked for me the first time I had this problem .

You have some N version of Windows, don't you? Install the media feature pack. You need it for 10000 other games as well.

Also install your favorite codec pack. OGG playback is definitely not included in Windows by default.

@[HOL] Solringen suggestion also sounds promising.

Do you have N?

Hey all, thank you very much for your advice and the time you spent helping me!
It's finally working :)
I installed the media feature pack and the missing codecs, it seems that I installed an N version
like you guys predicted. Yet this did not solve the problem. Therefore I tried deleting the sound cache files again and now I it seems that I have music in the game as it is supposed to be.
Best greetings from Germany :)

Music Fix
That's awesome news.

I would not rule out that installing the "Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 10" was not the fix for your issue. It may have still needed to have the cache deleted after the media feature pack was installed.

I totally agree that it could also be the sum of all the measures combined :)
