Ichthyosaur is too easy to kill with a crowbar

The Ichthyosaur is a terrifying giant creature that lurks under the waters of Black Mesa, occasionally jumping out and eating anyone it finds, or will wait for some unlucky person to fall into the water for it to snack on.. Sounds terrifying, right?.. Well, guess what it takes to kill it?.. All you have to do is swim up to it and smack it repeatedly with a crowbar. It won't even be able to attack you while you're doing this, nor does it try to move away. You basically can kill these beasts with 0 effort. Kinda takes the 'scary' factor away.. And if you do manage to kill the first one Gordon encounters with nothing but a crowbar, before meeting the scientist ahead.. He'll just stand there. He won't even talk about how Gordon just murdered that thing without a crossbow. He'll just be silent, not saying a word. Kinda ruins the immersion a little.

It is not. I checked few youtube videos, all people had the crossbow in the cage but I don´t..

Have you tried restarting that unlocked chapter. Go to the New Game menu and pick that chapter, just in case your saved game is corrupt.



If itnis still missing uninstall all mods and verify the integrity of the game files.

I know. I watched exactly this guy few moments ago.. But the crossbow is not there I swear. I restarted the game, verified data as well, didn´t help. I don´t have any mods. Fk it

Well, yes, after you open the door underwater and continue, there is ammo for crossbow before leaving the area

Kinda agree.
The crowbar is still a bit too OP, especially as creatures mostly don't attack if they get slammed over and over. :(

About that scientist.
At the very start of "Office Complex", you were able to rescue the scientist that gets eaten by a barnacle either.
Just by simply not looking through the closed door on the right, but rather immediately going into the vent and crouching through quickly.
As soon as you are in the area with the scientist, grab your gun and shoot the barnacle immediately, when its tongue bursts through the ceiling.
If you are quick enough you can save the scientist and he doesn't do anything either.

These people are actually considered as "dead" and even if you save them, they have a trauma since they actually know they shouldn't live anymore.


Nah, there is simply no script for those occurences, as it isn't meant to happen.
This could get avoided by simply forcing the script of not get interrupted by special player actions (barnacle kill gets triggered already when the player is in the vent, ichty is immortal as long as it hasn't eaten the scientist).
Would be an easy way to close those minor dirts.

No, I don't mean I rescued the scientist from getting eaten. I meant the one that tells you about the ichthyosaur and the crossbow.. It's 100% possible to beat the hell out of that Ichthyosaur with nothing but a crowbar. You could also use the glock to shoot it, as the glock works underwater.. It's funny how that same scientist says about the crossbow "I'm sure you'll find it much more useful than that crowbar of yours." But he's completely incorrect.
