CSM and Dynamic Lightning are huge resource hogs, you should lower them.
Don't worry, visuals aren't even impacted that much, it isn't noticeable.

You have mid to low range hardware. Expect mid to low range performance.

8GB of RAM as minimum, I recommend. A gaming PC should do the work nicely. Sadly the pricing isn't too affordable here where I currently live.

Then it's great that they wasted a lot of time developing a feature that's unoptimized and overall doesn't affect visual quality that much. :D Remember when CSM was the hot new thing in BM development? Disable that ♥♥♥♥, you don't need it now.

It's the source engine, you can't optimize it any better, it's being pushed to its absolute limits.

Not really, I'm just honestly quite disappointed when it comes to BM's version of Source and I don't see why bringing this up constantly gets hateful comments such as yours.

Here's the thing: when it comes to the general rendering quality even OG HL2 Source surpasses BM simply because there I can use MSAA. I don't think CSM looks that good on the other hand, it's an improvement of course but not something that is able to bring their rendering to the next level. Meanwhile we just have to accept that CC will never go beyond DirectX 9 so performance will never be excellent and since good performance is not really a priority during development we'll just have to swallow that brute forcing through hardware upgrades is the only way we'll get trivial things like a solid 60 fps.

And yep, I can see how different perspectives on development can exist but if I'm being brutally honest when it comes to the technical stuff what CC is doing is terrible and amateurish for an FPS of this caliber. It's simply disrespecting to the work they have put into the assets and the level design to have the game chug this much and really the legacy of HL1 deserves a bit more.

At the end of the day though I can understand that this is a project a bunch of people made in their spare time so it's not necessary that they have the expertise to for example make a jumpt to DirectX 11. Valve could have helped in that however but nope, in the age of remakes and remasters the creators of the original simply don't care about Black Mesa.

Sorry for not shilling.

this part the game is in technical testing, it might get better. and those arn't blazing fast specs.

Xen levels pushes the engine a lot further than the rest of the game. Xen will never performs as well as the previous maps and as mentioned, your rig is showing it's age.

Nope, it's not his rig it's the game that is an unoptimised amateurish mess. Parts of Xen run at 68 fps on my 12600k RTX 3080.
