I can’t open up Black Mesa. Help me.
I just bought the official Steam version of Black Mesa on my Windows 10 laptop, but I cannot open it up. I tried everything. I tried restarting my computer, but it wouldn’t work. I tried reinstalling it, nothing. I tried verifying the integrity of my files, nope. I tried opening it by going into files and opening the bms, but I got nothing, not even when I ran as administrator. I tried going to the process section of task manager to find hl2.exe, but it isn’t there. I could really use some help.

Does your computer have the retired system specs? The game will probably not run without them

How do I post my specs? Also, I purchased Black Mesa in the United States.

Here are a couple of simple ways to get your specs.
Steam has a built in method to get your systems specs.
Select help/system info in Steam
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=825696525
Cut and paste the info in your next post

You can also use Windows built in dxdiag
- Press windows(next to left ctrl) + r together
- A window called "run" will pop up.
- Type in dxdiag
- Press enter
- dxdiag will open

- Let it run
- Copy and paste your specs

Try running the game in windowed mode.
Go to Black Mesa's "Properties" and then "Set launch options."
Enter "-window -noborder".

If windowed mode did not help, do the following

Remove everything from the launch options and try autoconfig being sure to follow the instructions to the letter.

The -autoconfig launch option will allow Steam to configure a Source Engine game with the best settings for use on your machine.
1. Restart your computer.
2. Verify the integrity of the game files.
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335
3. Immediately after verification run Autoconfig.

Open Steam
Go to the "Library"
Right-click the game which needs to be reconfigured
Select "Properties" from the menu
Click the "Set launch options..." button
Remove any launch options currently shown.
Type -autoconfig in the box.
4. Remove -autoconfig after a successful launch.

Alrighty, so I go to the launch options and enter "-autoconfig" then I do the numbered steps which we will discuss tomorrow since I am going to bed. See ya.

Probably a weird question, but have you installed Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime codes? I believe it has something to do with missing runtime codes.
Since you also have Nvidia, consider downloading the Cuda Tool.

Hello there again. As we were discussing yesterday, I should put in "-autoconfig" in the launch options, then I restart my computer, then I verify my files, then I run "-autoconfig" (how do I do that?), then I:
Open Steam
Go to the "Library"
Right-click the game which needs to be reconfigured
Select "Properties" from the menu
Click the "Set launch options..." button
Remove any launch options currently shown.
Type -autoconfig in the box.

Finally I remove -autoconfig after a successful launch.

Did I miss anything?

How do I find out if I have the C++ codes?

You can go to the control panel using the search bar in Windows. Right-click the Windows logo and you can find the search button there. (Unless you're using MAC OS, runtime codes may not be compatable to the game).

Edit: If you don't have the codes installed at the moment, I will provide links to them. I would prefer you install the 2012, 2008, and the 2015 version (the 2017-2019 version can only be installed if you install Microsoft Visual Studios, which I don't recommend because it takes up a bunch of storage space.)
I also want to bring up that downloading the Cuda Toolkit comes with their own run-time code. I would prefer you download the local files so that everything is properly installed. You can find that with google if you use chrome.
