Thanks steam. Wanted to gift this to a friend. Can't, region lock...
Steam is such a great place now. I can't gift friends anymore because they live somewhere else...

What country do your friend live in? To my knowledge, Black Mesa dosn't have any region restrictions. If a game on the Steam store has a region restriction it has to note it on the store page.
What exactly is your "error/unsuccessful/failure" message, when you try to purchase?

When im about the send the game I get a note about "this game has a region lock etc." I can go through with the purchase but I dont want to risk with the gift ending up unplayable by my friend. The warning appears in the middle of the purchasing process of the gift.

I live in norway and he lives in america.

Well I've never heard of Black Mesa having a region lock. Do you know which country your friend lives in? America consists of multiple countries with each one having their own laws and censorship. If he lives in USA, I think there should be no problem. Some of the developers lives in the states too :happymeat:

This isn't anything to do with us, at least not to my knowledge. We've never enforced any additional rules and restrictions outside of simply selling the game on Steam.

It may be related to the fact that Steam automatically determines prices per country based on cost of living. At least, I think that's how it works. So it might not allow you to gift games across countries with a major discrepancy in the price of the game. That's just my guess, though.

Yes its USA. And I stil got a warning under purchase... Which means there is a possible risk which I dont want to waste cash on.

Steam does not provide much more info on the subject.

If you can go through with the transaction, your friend will get the gift to his account. There is no such risk that Steam will just take your money and say "too bad, your friend won't get sh*t."

I just tried to gift of Black Mesa to a friend in USA too and I didn't get any warnings. I live in Denmark so I don't think the difference between our country should exclude anything :-/

Not true, read the Steam link I posted.

"products purchased as gifts may have region restrictions"
"Gifts purchased in certain regions can be redeemed only in those regions."
That means his friend would not get the gift.

Zefnoly could probably get it refunded, or he could do what he is doing and not risk it.

No it doesnt work at all. Even if I click the purchase button it keeps popping up:

"Due to regional price differences, the gift you are trying to send cannot be sent to the recipient's region."

So no I cant gift this ♥♥♥♥ because of steam being such a dicky thing. Sadly I possibly need to give him the money through paypal and waste money on performing such transaction making it even more expensive because we need to go through thirdparty ♥♥♥♥. If he even has paypal or want to use that... Kinda trying to make it a suprize but yeah... Guess I wont be able to do so... And gray market is even more expensive again...

You always just use the new feature on steam which allows you to send money from account to account. But that’s of course not really the same thing as a real game gift :(

Well, a friend from USA promised me to gift this game, so I didn't get it for myself.
I totally forgot about region locked content. However, I am living in Europe, and now I am unpleasantly surprised that I can't get the gift which means that I'll probably get it months from now, with or without a discount. And there is no other way to get this elsewhere.

The odd thing. He gifted me this VR game. Which he dont have but also want himself. So I tried to gift the same game back but even that was locked for me. Why is he able to buy me a game I cant gift back because of region lock? This system is messed up...

Im not sure about the mechanics of steam, but have you considered trying a VPN to change your "internet location"? Pretty sure it wont work but its worth a try. Maybe even try changing your country location in account details? But I dont know if its possible as I have never tried :P

Using a VPN is against Steams Terms of Service and that can get you booted.
