Can you breathe in Xen without a helmet?
I noticed that in Xen when I was playing the 1998 version of half life. I found out that Freeman had no helmet (thanks to console commands). Surely when you enter a different dimension there is a very rare chance that the atmosphere is 78% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen and 1% Argon. So does the H.E.V. have an Oxygen supply in the helmet or something?

Thanks

Freeman HAS a helmet.

Come to think of it, I now demand Freeman to have a helmet (at least) during the Xen stages.

Gordon breathes with magical apparatus that are attached to his glasses.

Quick thought; what if exposure to the portals modifies the biology of the one being teleported so as to make said organism stable in it's new environment?
It would explain why the teleports tend to only pick up entire organisms, as well as why they are able to survive without running into biochemical incompatibilities. It makes some sense for some system of this to have been implemented by the science team to make it safe to visit xen and retrieve specimens, although doing so would have been a massive undertaking, and still doesn't seem to fit during the resonance cascade.

There are bodies of HEV-equipped people wiyh helmets in Xen in HL.

I'm expecting either a helmet pickup or an an animation in BM.

Good idea.

Thing is you do not need a helmet on xen, both calhoun and shepard went there with out an HEV suit.

in shepards case they had a gas mask which filters out possible biological contaminants, it does not provide air, and if it did you would have 15-30 minutes max depending on the tank. its just a filter. this alone shows their is an apropriate amount of oxigen on xen (not to much or to little). though the fact that the aliens from xen can survive on earth shows that.

In Calhouns case he spends several hours there, with nothing but a black mesa security helmet. showing that not only can you breath the air it is none toxic.

As for why the HEV crew has helmets that is biological contaminant prevention. as the aliens have been proven to be compatible with out eco system (air, and biological) that means that their illnesses are as well. so the helmets are there purely to protect against illness, and biological contaminations like what ever the bullsquid spits.

We find ourself in the awkward position as the terraformers in Alien: Covenant. Sure, the air may be fit to breathe but who's to say that they're not getting infected with something. Plus, As we've read time and again the Xen levels were more or less rushed out, which means the helmet/ breathing thing likely wasn't even a priority.

I vote *for* helmet. If not anything else for the cool factor.

Don't make me go and "throw down" or whatever.

I'm pretty sure Gordon wears a helmet since he has a heads-up display and all the fancy statistics of the HEV suit when you pick it up.

the HUD, is on his glasses. as we know in hl2 he has no helmet. likely the suit has a projector in it that prints the hud on his glasses.

I like to think Gordon's glasses sync up with his suit to project the display.

The precursor to the less cool google glass.
