Hitscan enemies
Fighting hitscan enemies such as the Marines is no fun when they have perfect aim. Wouldn't it be possible to have their aim vector start somewhere near the player and home in? You could make the homing speed scale with difficulty. It just makes them a chore to fight since you're basically playing "whack a mole" with them as it is, popping in and out of cover.

They don't have perfect aim at all. They're just more aggressive than usual enemies in modern shooters.

I came here just now to post this. Some of the enemies, particularly the marines just felt "off". Its like theyre using perfect accuracy and theres no real way to beat them. Im not really struggling with the difficulty so much and I don't die often, but the way to beat them seems to be peaking corners and shooting through little cracks. Its not an invalid approach, it just feels like cheesing your way through the game opposed to playing it, and its not very satisfying.

I'm not an expert but i have an insane amount of games and what seems for me to be off is the fact that they have far too perfect accuracy and the biggest thing is that theres almost no stun. No matter how good you are, unless you sneak up on them, you WILL take significant damage even if you shoot first and shoot more accurately. It doesn't feel difficult, it just feels cheap.

inb4 im a pleb/♥♥♥♥♥♥ HL1 had much more stun, and if the devs meant for a more tactical/slow paced approach, that requires leaning, a much better stealth system, and possibly ADS.

I like the marines in BM better thank HL. They were meant to be a huge obstacle in gordon's path, unlike your average alien wildlife.

That's possible, I don't play many shooters so I don't really know. I was comparing them more to enemies in 3rd person action games, where you have a big tell and plenty of time to react or dodge. In BM the enemies just see you and start shooting, seems to me like they hit me right away every time. There's not much you can do besides to dive for cover, the player can't take a lot of hits.

Marines are a big threat in Black Mesa. So you'll have to play safer. And that's a good thing, and it's more realistic than good pell-mell into 5 marines and kill all of 'em without taking any sort of damages.

There is a file called skill.cfg in resources that lets you customize the attributes if you want to fiddle on your local copy.

Post Xen I'd like to look into having them walk in their shots from in front of the player like in some other games.

This exactly

Gordon isn't meant to run around, giving zero ♥♥♥♥♥ about the marines and just destroy everything (especially at higher difficulties). I have more of a problem with the assassins, but it just takes some well placed nades and shoulder peaking to beat them. Play it as if you were playing CSGO.

Can't wait for the Xen patch

except for the choppers and assassins because both of those have direct hitscan and a ♥♥♥♥ ton of damage they never miss and its retarded because it just turns into a dice roll on their pathway if they will run into you or not

this is the thing i remember most from my playthrough also, its like the most aggressive hitscan ever

I agree that they feel a bit off. Like they are "cheating".

I do agree that they should be aggressive and hard to beat. That is good.

But on occasion it feels like they are almost impossible to fool. Unless they are directly engaging aliens or scripted(?) to not care about you they will spot you as soon as they have a clear line of sight. You're not rewarded for tricking them because they just know. They will sometimes just keep on shooting towards where you are hiding in cases where they should have a real hard time telling. And when they enter a new area from for example a shopper they immediately know where to start firing. And if one of them has spotted you they all know exactly where you are.

That's what it feel like anyway.
