Accountant?
Just got back into the game, and I noticed there's tax now so at the end of my first year I hired an service team member specializing in accountant with programming as their second skill. He got the tax done in a couple of months and I'm hoping that means he'd switch to programming as a secondary task but no, he stays doing accounting stuff. The task is called background accounting but I'm not sure what it is he actually does as the ledger seems unchanged? There's a minor thing that's called... tax adjustment or something like that which reduces my tax by about 20% or so but since I'm a small company, the taxed amount is negligible and I rather have him work as a back up programmer instead. Do I have to turn his service job off to make him do programming and turn it back on during tax season? Feels like a hassle

Yea early accountants can really save less than they earn. It would be nice to have a button to disable the tax efficiency work and just have him prioritise the tax report when that time of year comes around. For now it's often just easier to pay the fine.

When you set his role you should be able to give him programming as a secondary role. Just make sure that the "Background Accounting" task doesn't require any "star" activity he can't perform.

I believe the tax efficiency work does eventually cap, and then he will look for other work to do, as long as he can perform it.

Yeah I already gave him programming as secondary role. I'll let him do his thing then for a few more months and see if it caps eventually. If not I guess I'll force him to program lol. Right now the amount of tax saved from him doing his thing isn't worth his salary I think (or at least it'd be better if he just support my programming team)

Yeah, that would be a good solution, let's hope they add that in future patch. Thanks for the help!

Just adding to my own question, if you go to (Manage Teams) > (Task) you can uncheck the accounting task and that will cause your accountants to stop background accounting tasks like tax optimization and do their secondary roles tasks instead.

I believe that is set per default for the core team, but only them afaik.
