How to use elevators?

I built an elevator in my first floor. Then I wanted it to go up and down the floors, so I tried to build another one above the one in the firlst floor. It told me that the space is already occupied. So I thougth that the elevator in the second floor will go up and down on its own, but it didn't (My employees didn't use it to get to the second floor and they had nowhere to sit). So how to use the elevators?

If you put in an elevator, there should be a circular beam that goes through the floors. You have to place elevator doors on the beam. I think you need a room around the elevator too. Does this help?

It's a bug, it has been fixed in the latest update which should release tomorrow.
