Having spent more time in multiplayer i think that the mode needs to have some QOL adjustments from how the single player works.
For example, the game should have a single speed that's unified for all players, everyone slows down, pauses and builds at different times etc, it would help more generally if the pace stayed the same.
The fact that every player can adjust their own game speed is what takes most of the "pace" and fun out of multiplayer currently, i think one baseline speed around medium or slightly higher would be fine if such things as below were implemented.
Expenses should also have a percentage reduction depending on how much money a player has, such as all costs reduced by 30% if a player has less than 50k/100k etc.
Not sure if i simply missed an option for this, but starting all players on a standard building with say, space for 10 employees would also help with early pacing, as after players have had enough time so save money, you get stuck in a huge amount of build periods where everyone is constructing and laying out their offices etc.
Collaboration software -
An option to select another player company as a "partner" when creating new software would allow more interaction, and allow players who intend to make different software, focusing on different skills for employees, to leverage each other to make a software they might not be able to alone early on.
for the speed i would say a option for 3 modes:
1 what you said
2 how it is now
3 something more like "mad games tycoon 2", every player can adjust the speed if the option is checked for that, otherwise only the host
