Cameras spot burglars and alert police.
Police comes and escorts burglars away, stopping them from looting the building.
Everything that already got looted is lost, so get some security guards :)

It might be a bug I've encountered then; I'm only in the garage in the 1980's. I setup the camera on the tile immediately left of the door facing it, but the burglar came in and stole everything including the camera itself.

I honestly think the burglars should just disable the camera (drip ink or something), or maybe even hack it (sparks, as opposed to the smoke of it breaking normally)

Might have been a blind spot, but I'm guessing that it takes the police time to come. So when you were in the garage (small space) it still gets looted faster then the police can arrive, ergo you get robbed blind xd.

TIP:
When starting (like in the garage), get the full insurance coverance.
Costs a bit but you will get all your items back.

The moment you scale up after making a lot of money, get security guards 24/7. I haven't had 1 burglar since I got a security guard 24/7. Still put cameras up for roleplaying, but they haven't had to spot a single burglar thanks to my security.
And then you can loose the insurance, because for a big building you will be paying 100k+ and more per month.

(Try to keep your entrances to a minimum for the security guard to stay at your single enterance. This way no burglar will ever get inside :D )

Burglars are simply annoying. I hired like 6 guards to protect one doors,so building is watched 24/7 and still i get looted, lol. At least there is restore button but it costs money, and is annoying when they steal all your servers so you have to move things back manually

Sometimes (specifically in the starting room of Skyscraper Inc), even that doesn't work.

Are your guards guarding the door or are they running around?
Before the entrance of the building, build a outdoor space. Assign the guards to that small space et voila, no burglar can get passed the guard.
Do you have entrances on the other side of building as well? hire more guards.

IF you have more entrances i'm guessing its a big building so you'd probably have a lot of money so those extra few sec guards won't hurt the wallet that much.

Make the guards overlap 1or2 hrs. ex Guard 1: 00:00 - 08:00 guard 2: 06:00-14:00 .....

Tested it on multiple building setups and I never got robbed once.

It's the fun of managing a (real) office building. Camera's just don't work all the time (blindspots etc). And 1 security guard for 2+ doors just makes him vulnerable for burglars that lay and wait until he moves to the other door ;)

I don't necessarily want to turn them off, it just isn't clear what measures there are against them and how effective they are.

Having a security system burglarised just makes me as the player sit there scratching my head.

Burglars can even come in the middle of the working day and take the computer people are actively working on!

I have experienced a real life case, when someone stole the security cameras. No kidding. The camera is an just electronic device which could be sold after all.

What bugs me more, is the game mechanic, when police cought the thief red handed but all items are lost anway. I woulld rather see that 80% of stolen stuff is recovered by policie. Rest 20% are damaged beond repair or lost so they must be replaced. That would better reflect reality.

I appreciate it's possible in real life, but as a player what lesson do I learn? That Cameras are useless and just a resource drain.

Purpose of sec cam is REDUCE damage. (damage control) Camera do not remove thieves.

You could read also rest of my previos post, so you see the game usage. Simply say, Camera calls the police so damage is reduced by 80%

So far cameras have made no difference regardless of size. Like I said, it simply feels bugged and/or pointless when security ensures no burglars get anything and don't have much of an overhead cost.

In events where burglars have stolen from an 18 person office, they've stolen everything and police never come. Nothing happens except my cost to replace.

Its beta test of an ALFA version of game right?
You have a rare experience to give feedback for IMPROVE the game systems to become fun.

I dont expect the new gamemechanic, burglar, work 100% correct in this stage.

I am saying that steal of sec cam is prefectly OK.
I am saying that burglary need to be improved, also gave an idea how.

Dont like it? Switch it off. :D
or dont participate in the beta test of the alfa version.
