If this alone isn't enough do this on the room/area with the picnic benches: right click room -> limit room usage -> canteen or lounge.
(right click room -> switch team -> team a/b/c/...)
Making room groups is indeed an easier way to conviently change multiple rooms to teams / staff (cleaning, it, ...)
If you shift click multiple rooms or if you have assigned them to a room group, you can easily change all the settings for those rooms (like limit room usage, assign teams, assign staff, ....).
If you are using like multiple single person offices in a huge office tower, this feature really helps when changing settings / teams / ...
For a small building with just a few rooms, there's no need to room group.
