Secondary Tasks
When I go into "Manage Teams" there is a button in there that allows me to assign secondary tasks. However, even though I assign secondary tasks to my teams, all my employees go idle when they finish or are no longer qualified to work on their primary tasks.

How do you get the secondary tasks to work? Is it bugged or am I missing something?

I think it works along the same principal as roles. It allows you to set aspects of a project as a priority.

If you give a team a project they'll work primary tasks first (like they work primary roles first), then once they've finished them, they move onto secondary stuff.

Not entirely sure, but i think this is how it works...

im wondering the same thing, enabling secondary tasks options does nothing as far as i can notice. any one figured how to use this feature?

I reported this bug a week ago with attached save game.
Currently I do not recommend using secondary roles until the issue is fixed.

Just send a savegame with description, there is bug report option ingame.

They need to have the skills to do the secondary task. IN HR/Manage Teams add the skills to them in education so they will be able to acquire said skills. You will also need to assign them to the task in assign tab.

I know how skills works. my core team has 3 stars in everything and still do NO work into any job that isnt directly assigned to them, regardless of the secondary tasks enabled in the team menu.
this obviously is either a well known bug (since it always happens) or im using the feature wrong.

MY Bad, if you think it is not working as designed report it in the discord under bugs.

Thanks.
as another post mentioned, it might be a bug since others struggle with it as well.
im sure dev knows about it since it is there in plain sight.
It just does nothing, even on a new game with fresh installation.

If you tried using that feature on the latest experimental build, please let me know if it works for you, just to confirm.

You have to assign them to a task that actually uses the "secondary task" skill. For example, having a group of programmers with the secondary task of "support", you need to assign them to a support task to do once their primary task is done

And that is what is broken. Simple test: set your founder on secondary tasks programming and set 1 programming task and 1 design taks. Programming task will not move. Let design task finish and turn it into programming task. No tasks will proceed forward at all.

Also on the subject, i was wondering if by assigning a lot of secondary projects to a team would it affect their Stress for multitasking, which it shouldn't, because as secondary task they should do one at a time.
White Rabbit Nov 22, 2020 @ 3:18pm
Too many tasks will cause stress and is a good way of telling you that you are being very inefficient and tasks will take longer to complete, its better to have lots of little teams or even better teams with the right number of workers for the task, in the beginning its ok to have a few extra workers if you are going to educate them, but i tend to hire one experienced worker if your program has a 3 star feature and fire them after or when you have trained one of your workers, as their wages should be lower if you don't give them what they want they ask for too big a pay rise every time. If you use a big team for support that is ok but make sure you hire some system programmers to help fix bugs but again the more tasks you give them the longer it will take and fixing bugs is slow in the beginning and costly when you are spending years paying wages to fix bugs you have to find the right balance for you and your play style and difficulty. I always play on hard minimum 3 days a month for context.

Hi, I've just started this game, not played in a while so quite a lot new to me.

I start out as a designer for my character followed by programmer and start with doing contract work, I then hire a couple of programmers so I do the design for the contract and let the programmers do the code, However one of the coders I hired also had some design skill so I put that as his secondary.

The two coders finished the code of the contract and released it, yet I wasn't finished with the design, so one coder just sat there with ZZZzzz as his task was just to code. The coder with some design skill automatically started helping out with the design I was working on, and as soon as I pushed that design through and started on designing the next one, both coders started code.

So based on this small little use of the secondary I would say it's working as intended.

The version I'm on is 11.7.17 (testing branch)

Yes, worker secondary role works, we were discussing another feature:
The "Team secondary tasks" in the team managment menu.
We assumed it was supposed to provide similar functionality for a whole team.
Meaning they would work on tasks that werent assigned to them, if the task is from a certine specified secondary category you selected and they have nothing else to do, thus spending less time being idle.
That feature however doesnt seem to be working / its unclear how to use it properly.

I just ran across this today and it still doesn't seem to be doing what it's implied to do. Teams only work on tasks assigned to them instead of helping other teams (what I assumed it should do). This makes too much micromanagement.
