Press Releases
So when first starting my company I hired a single marketer, and granted he's low skill, but it takes forever (!!) to write a dang press release. Which begs the question, does the press get the release version of when you STARTED the press release or the state of the game when you RELEASE the press release? Aka I had 1 unit of code when I started release and 5 when I released it. How does the release get evaluated based upon a situation like that?

I don't think the press release has much of anything to do with completion status. It's more of a design phase thing, propaganda, if you will. I suppose pictures could be from the actual appplication, but more likely they're advertising renders/drawings like you see in press releases about games IRL. Press Builds would have a lot more to do with project status, reflecitng current state of the project build.

My assumption has always been that the press release is based on the point at which you finish writing it. At least that is how it appears.

Colbalt your answer makes sense, but when a press release is evaluated in the news it says things like, "it looks feature rich and the pictures/video are beautiful" which makes me think ploppo is right, but I think press builds DEFINATELY show more about the current state of the game. How often do you release press releases/builds?

The implementation of press releases in Software inc caters for multiple press releases; however, I only ever bother doing one. Mainly because they can take a long time to write.

They seem to have been designed whereby each press release should improve on a previous press release - or at least that seems to be the point of them.

I only do one and I generally release it close to or during the debugging stage - because I generally include pictures and video in my press release.
