Servers
I think there needs to be a bigger server than the Huge Server rack as it doesn't scale well with late game and you can't compete with the big dogs!
Also the servers cost WAYYYYYY too much in electricity.
Here is my server farm: https://gyazo.com/c5f07bebd8fe96e2aa44e288dcb39151
And here is the costs each month and how much i am making from two TOP companies at 10% cut on profit: https://gyazo.com/b7baca501f2dd5a8f6dc6b9f9201cbef
265 million in revenue but 1.6 trillion in costs for electricity? Little bit crazy for one month don't you think...
I was trying to play the game deferently to the rest by trying to be a server company but its clearly not working.
And no my servers are not overkill, they go from 40% capacity to over 100% capacity sometimes depending on my contract deals with companies. Still no profit.
Great game as always :D

Also the more distribution i get the more I spend on servers so its just never going to be profitable, which makes no sense when there is huge server companies!

Not sure of electricty costs for commercial/industrial but about 10 cents a kilowatt hour sounds about right. That implies that you are using 16 trillion kilowatt hours per month or about 16 quadrillion watts per month or about 22 billion watts per hour. If each server used 1,000 watts and cooling is about 1,000 watts per server , that would mean you have roughly 11 million servers. Could be a mathematical problem there.

Yeah I know about the servers, one game I hit 50TB bandwidth on a single release, my game crashes once I get over 30k servers haha I mean fortunately I was around 120 billion by this point so the energy costs weren't as big of deal but still, it's a bit mad.

I'm more impressed with the 17.8 TB of ART for a processor. :steammocking:

Yep so some maths need changing here!

Yeah I really wanted to make a server farm company and be a distrbution company like steam

I think the distribution route would be really cool to explore, I mean I already have around 100TB bandwidth planned for when I hit 2010

You also pay for the internet connection depending on bandwidth used. The big server rack was just thrown in unedited from the mod, so I'll look at balancing it. I'm quite surprised that it is not handling the load though, it's 10 times more powerful than the biggest server in alpha 8, is it purely from distribution?

No I get almost no load through distribution, all of it comes from the software support after I release something, because I got to a point where I had market dominance over everything I would have about 60 million active users which puts a ridiculous amount of strain on my servers, hence the ridiculous amount of bandwidth.

I'll set the big server rack to 100 GB, that would still mean 500 servers to support 50TB, so I'll probably add a bigger server in a future update. I'll have to trade realism for performance, but I already do that with employees.

Yeah if it's more of an endgame type thing it's not an issue, I started running out of bandwidth at around 1995 in that game, this was when I only had a 400GB server farm and had to push to 1TB and then it just steadily climbed until I had 15k servers in a massive farm. I didn't get to test it with the big servers mod though because it broke that save haha, loving your work though dude had this game for a long time and it's cool to see the way it's progressed

Yes that is mostly from distribution, when im using companies or I release a product the distribution shoots up to 100s of TBs for a day and then i lose all my contracts - Can you have a look at the internet/electricity/bills for the servers as well :) Thanks! I just really want to make a profitable distribution company.

I can never get my distribution popularity above maybe 15%, even if I set my cut really low, am I doing something wrong here or is there just a natural bias towards the existing distributors?

Its because the other HUUUUUUUUGE companies like the trillion dollar ones do it themselves and selll millions of stuff per day as they are really badly scaled. If you offer them a distribution deal your servers can handle them and they close the contract.
