Tips for digital distribution? (alpha 9.7.4)
I cant get digital distribution to be profitable at all, the internet costs outnumber earnings by a lot even with an 8% deal with most companies. Am I doing something wrong or are the economics of digital distribution simply unbalanced?

Hard to tell without a screenshot of your finance report. Check where the money is going, including bills.

its all going to bills $559,000, $545,500 of which is internet cost. the servers made $228,000. The digital distribution is the only thing on the servers.

Left another couple months pass, internet cost is now 1 million and distribution profit is half a million (with 8% deals) seems to me i need a 16% deal average with all companies to make it break even, but im having a hard time getting 10% deals, let alone 16%. idk if theres anything more i should be doing.

Check how much bandwidth your digital distribution uses. If total available bandwidth is much bigger than required for digital distribution, you are just wasting money and you should bulldoze any unused servers.

update: i managed to get an 8% deal with a successful company, the servers brought in 2 million but the internet connection bill came at 3.5 million resulting on a 1.5 million loss. looks like 15% is roughly what you should charge for your digital distribution, a deal almost impossible to get.

The AI will go up to 30% depending on their size and the popularity of your store. I would suggest making good deals with small companies until you build up some popularity with your store or, alternatively, release products that make your store popular by yourself, like Valve.

I have used this technique as well. I try to setup with the larger companies first, but they usually will only offer me a pittance (like 0.6% of sales). But I can routinely get 10-15% out of smaller companies. So I start with them while ramping up and making a name for myself.

Hey, Whiplash - you still making videos : )

I was looking through some old 7d2d stuff and thought I would track you down - saw your message posting and thought you had branched out into software development <LOL>

I still miss your old 7d2d videos. Idiots. So much potential in those early years.

Even af the beggining of the game it seems to be better to have digital store because distribution costs are way less and more profitable than having it handle by someone else,at least for me.
