ok this actually doesnt make any sense(shields)
i made a post about what i tought was a shield glitch, and after consulting with a physiotherapist it was confirmed that unless you where ready to recieve the impact, you could hurt yourself.

but after testing the other weapons on the same basis, it doesnt make any sense. if i ready the parry with my shield, but right before he connects i decide to attack his open guard, i will still lose a fith of my health, even if i try to evade his attack by goin chest to chest with him, and he hits my shield with the guard of his weapon, i will still lose a fith of my health. that is to much. I do this all the time with the other weapons, and it works, if i am to get attacked and cant escape, i go close to him, and that diminishes the damage a lot, but if i have a shield in my arm and left click for less then i second, i will lose a fith of my health, even if the dude is using a polearm and hits me with the wooden handle, its like my shield is another head i have to keep from getting hit.

this basicly forces me to wait till i hear the shield getting striked, then attack when he(the enemie) has the oportunity to close his guard and defend. the shield is almost useless(with the exception of the dungeon as the enemies can attack in numbers), i basicly go with a one handed sword now, and nothing else, because at least i can hit and feel safe i wont lost a fith of my health while barely getting hit , when otherwise with a shield i would have taken a ton of damage while attackin and barely getting hit.

i cant picture any sense in this.

i was thinkin if i should post this, as i tested and tested again to see if i was mistaken, or if it made sense, but i dont see how it makes sense.

peaple have told me that you can take hits on the shield all day, and you wont die, even when getting non-lethatl damage on it...yeah i can, but if i take non-lethal damage till my yellow bar is empty, the next mistake i made will kill me, no matter how small.

if somene could tell me how this works, i would apreciate.

Hm. Maybe your shield isn't aimed at the enemy properly? Never had this happen to me.
no you dint get it, the shield is in parry position, but if i left click for even a milesecond i will lose a fith of my health, even if the shield was ready to recieve the blow.

try it in your game, it might be happening and you dint noticed.

So you're saying the split second before impact from a parry, you commit to swinging and while you don't parry; it still collides with the shield? If this is the case it's because it's not counting as a parry and you're just taking the damage through the shield as a dead object, shields adhere to the same rules as trash on the ground I believe. They intend to give shields special rules later but for now they are dumb objects. I agree though I go sword and torch in story and only one hand sword in arena. Right now the weight isn't worth it to me, but that preference.
oh, so they are aware of that, and pretend to implement it, that is good to know :p. but the thing is that i lost a fith of my health no matter how hard or how weak i get hit on the shield, be it with the enemies weapon guard or handle. the reason you already know.

thanks anyway, its a reliefe to know that this is a know thing between the devs, and that it will be look into later.

As it is if you're not actively blocking you can still take impact damage through your shield, this is still based on the strength of the impact. Shield mechanics will change significantly with the addition of shield skils and stats.
that is awesome!

I am lookin foward to the future of this game, from what i have read so far the game is only goin to get better and better, i am glad to give it my support.

I'm hoping there is some combo where you can use a torch and a one-hander and not attack with the torch but parry with it. Or only attack with it on command. Wouldn't want to auto-alternate.

Can I suggest that the damage you take from shields is only-ever stanima (yellow) damage and is havily mitigated; the damage also doesn't interupt player attack as baseline. This would allow interesting shield-counter-attack play that you'd see from real life 'sword and broad' users. Cheers.

The real problems are how enemies abuse the shields by blocking with their throat and taking no damage, and enemies never have this problem that you have where they lose 1/5 of their health when they block during attacks.
