How does the checkpoints work?
First of all, sorry because my english isnt very good..

I began playing the game two days ago, first of all in the Arenas. Once I beat them, I started with the game.

I got a good armor, this blue jarm, all the books and notes.. beat most of the zombies.. and when I reach the second lvl, i decided to come back and explore other zones because there was a way with levers, holes etc. like a puzzle. So I was always exiting and entering the game before dangerous situations, because I thought that once ive die Ill come alive again in that point...
But NO, I died and when I decided to enter again to play... I saw that come alive in a very far chekpoint, without any armor, books, notes... all this things that I get before... You shold have seen my face.. omg.. that was very anoying.
Hope they change this method.. I really dont want to start again.

1st you turn them on in the options. then the first locked door and every level entrance after that is a checkpoint finalizing in the portal. You do nothing but use these places to trigger the checkpoint save, if you die you'll rollback to a checkpoint save.

There's a checkpoint after the mandatory locked door on the first map and then each time you enter a new map. DId you reach the door to the second map and turn back or did you go through it? It will activate the checkpoint only if you go through it.

I go through that door, accesing to the 2nd lvl. And then I turned back to explore more the first lvl.. T_T

Despite this, the game is incredible, a well done work, love it, and Im going to wait to the release of Sui Generis.
About my problem, I know the game is difficult, and is the purpose of it, and I love it (examples: the fight mechanism, this doors and levers labyrinth where you have to materials that are in the floor, like woods, chairs, etc. love it).
But (and is my opinion, maybe I can give you an idea), i think that when youre dead the fact that you loose all your armour and materials until the last chekpoint is very frustrating and maybe some players stop playing the game. Is only a opinion, and really I hope to get ahead this proyect youre working in, because I see that youre working hard on it and also is something original, new for us, and it would be interesting to build a big comunity on it.

Maybe you can create a box at the begining of each new lvl where we can save our object.

Despite there are some checkpoints due to some people that complained about starting again and again for their reckless actions, Bare Mettle wants to create a game where every action you do will have a repercussion, so a save system will go against their vision and if I recall well, they said that there will be only checkpoints the first three levels and that's all they will add similar to a save system.
They want to make you think before you do anything, for example, do I have a good armor or weapon to face this enemy? Do I really need that weapon? Am I good enough to face him? Would it be better to face him or should I evade him? Would it be too risky to continue exploring? If you can save the game or items when you want, you won't think about these things, you just will be a berserker and try to smash every enemy and if you fail, you will try again without any consequence for your imprudent actions which will be a bit absurd.
Why do you think they didn't apply any discount to their game this past christmas? (Personally I think the current price is too cheap for this great gem) That's because they don't want to addressed their game to the public at large, they want to addressed it to a certain group that share their vision, and sell as much as possible without losing sight of their goal, they don't want to create another generic or casual game to please everyone, they want to create something new, innovative, original, and complex.

Yes thats awesome.. maybe I have to change my point of view when playing this game, I have one question, how can I activate the chekpoint, what is the colour that shows there activated? the mosr dark color or the grey one? XD

Take it easy, be persistent and keep trainning you will understand the game mechanics and become a master soon or later, it took me many hours in the arena, around 30, to understand how the game worked and with every update everything change. Grey one I guess but also check that it's not the same colour that the window mode option if you play the game in fullscreen

Grey one but also check that it's not the same colour that the window mode option if you play the game in fullscreen

When my windowed mode option is "black" colour, my game appear windowed, but when it is in grey colour my game appears in fullscreen... so? my chekpoints are activated y "black"? :S:S

Yes dark is checked.
thx to all. Ok so my yesterday game didnt "checkpointed" because it was in grey colour.. so it was not activated. So ill see today if it is sure dark colour means checked
using the 'Music' check box is also an easy way to see what image looks like checked, not checked.
Checkpoint does not work when entering area 5 for me. Is there not one? If not stakes are too high to get gear in area 4 before moving on to 5. I cleared area 4 and got all the gear I wanted. When I went to area 5 and diead I was back at the end or area 3 just before entering the portal. I was pretty pissed becasue I felt I got pretty lucky clearing out area 4 even killing the demon and only using 1 potion and 1/3 life. I'm sure other people can do a lot better but that was good for me. A lot of luck helped. Now I see no reason to even mess with area 4 at all if I'm going to die in area 5 and have to start back at the begining of area 4 again. Took a long time and a lot of patience and luck.

The 4th level will lead to other areas, so will the 5th,they will eventually connect at some point, but the aim is to create a massive area that interconnects with others at points to allow different approaches to the story. Also dont forget that more intelligent a.i. Is coming to diversify the experience allowing multiple playthroughs with events happening differently each time.
Check point does not work on level 5 because there will be no more check points after the portal. Portal is last 1, which is mandatory even if you don't have checkpoints on.
I see. Nothing is broken then.
