My Torch disappeared...?
So I forgot to switch to a shield when I opened a door. I was immediatley greeted by an aggressive zombie at the door and backed up and switched to the shield. Killed the zombie. Killed some more nearby. Looked at my invetory to get my torch out so I could explore, but alas, it was not there.

I frantically looked through my items and all around the area I explored, multiple times. It's just simply gone, and I don't know if it's expunged or I somehow dropped it in a random crevice (extremely unlikely) or...

I'm on floor/level/dungeon number 3 and I can confidently say that the torch has been crucial to my exploration so far. And so far, I've measured my progress by the amount of area I've explored and the amount of literature I've found. I really, really, really don't want to have to go through all those same rooms, probably making multiple trys to get to where I am now.

Is there any playability from here forward without a torch? If I die, will it spawn me at my current level, and will it spawn me with a torch?

Did you enable the early checkpoints in the game options? If not then when you die you'll have to start from the very beginning.

However, here's a hint: there is a hidden item on level 3 that makes a torch no longer necessary.

Didn't enable the checkpoints.
And is this item deep within level 3? Can I find it without help from my torch(I just got into the level pretty much)?
Also, is it just a healing potion? Because I don't want to have to navigate by holding a healing potion up for the rest of the game

Keep looking, you'll figure it out. When you do you can make a decision on whether you want to keep going without a torch.

It might be worth double-checking under everything in your inventory, and around the area where you last saw the torch, just in case.

But personally I'd probably restart given the torch is such a useful piece of equipment.

There's nothing wrong with running multiple adventurers though, thay all add to your pool of global xps. Eventually your adventurers will begin with five skills :)

It's close to the beginning of level 3. It's not a healing salve; it's much better! It's in a hidden location but if you pay attention to your environment you should be able to find it.

I will say try out and see how far you can get but it would definitely not be a bad thing to start a new playthrough soon. The fact that you have gotten this far without early checkpoints is a good sign. You will die, trust me, but that isn't a bad thing, your next playthrough will be more awesome.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I've just been hesitant because I've died at the end of level 1 so many times before, and having to repeat the same 10-30 minutes of gameplay over and over got a bit exhausting. I'll keep marching on without a torch and see how far I get! No sense in wasting my progress and going back if trying to go forward and getting killed will have the same affect. It'll just be a darker, more stressfull adventure, haha. If anyone wants to lend me moral support, feel free to message me.

I replied to this thread yesterday but my reply doesn't appear to be here..?

Anyway, there's a bug in the current release whereby if you equip a shield over a torch and simultaneously close the inventory the torch can disappear. Sorry about. It's been fixed and won't happen again in the next release.

Oh, well thanks for the reply and for fixing it! I'm eager to play again.
Is there a date for the next release?

I just had this happen to me today :( I was fighting 2 golems(running like a ♥♥♥♥♥ actually) and pressing my quick swap button and I think I may have closed my inventory while quick swapping. I got knocked out and when I went back to retrieve my sword I noticed that my torch was gone. I searched the area but it had just dissapeared. I didn't even have it in hand when I was knocked out. I had my shield on, so I'm guessing this bug caught me.

Maybe put a few more torches in the game?
