How Can I Recover from Injury?
Now, I know from research that there is a healing potion SOMEWHERE. But I'm on the first floor, and my character is knocked down to a quarter of the beginning max health. This, by the way, occurred from two NPCs, one with an axe and the other with some kind of slashing weapon, that jumped me in the dark.

I didn't even see them coming, and now I'm nearly dead. I know they aren't common, and I know the game isn't supposed to be easy (I love it for that, actually), but it could become nearly impossible if I can't at least partially recover from my injuries.

*To clarify: I'm not looking for a fix- all; I'm trying to find a way to partially restore max health.

yellow, orange stamina/health regenerates. Red health is injury wich is semi-permanent. you can heal it with these strong glowing potions. the alternative is Finding the mask on level 6 and taking it from the guy who has it and then inserting the right coloured gem to restore health over time

Thanks for the response.

So, unlike Arena mode, injuries (red health) do not heal slightly on a per- combat basis?

red health does not regenerate on its own. in general story combat wise i would reccomend stabbing zombies with alt-left click scince they are VERY vulnerable to this attack type. also if you only started playing story now: some fights can be avoided and while some people are allways agressive some can also be "friendly". by avoiding eye contact and not being in a combat pose and keeping distance some undead can slowly become "used" to your presence and then possibly not see you as a threat. (in the next update NPC interactions and intelligence will be strongly expanded upon). in the later levels most things are just straight up hostile and running from your enemies is no shame if you don't think that you can win with minimum damage taken.

overall explore as much as possible and pick up and exanime various items because you slowly gain Experience by doing so. also most containers have random loot, weapons and armor so keep your eyes open for chests and weapons hidden in barrels walls or behind things.

i think the story mode will greatly increase in depth and entertaiment value once magic and npc interactions from the next few updates get implemented.

I've figured out (thankfully) that I can avoid most combat encounters. Most of my first playthroughs ended in disaster (one case included sprinting headlong into an undead whilst running from another foe). Thanks for the other tips, too. I've mostly been ignoring the barrels.

we people must help other people, the more experienced exanima players there are the better. if you look for a good starting weapon if you don't know already i really like the Blunt one-handed iron bar. from start go out of the room, take the right and then take the door on the very end of he hall. then there are 2 doors right and one left and a hallway, the first door on the right has gloves, the second one a machete in one of these wall-shelve things and the door on the very left leads to a large room with poles on a table, both 1 and 2 handed ones. the one handed pole is quite good. also in this area from the "pole" room into the room with the 2 pillars somewhere in the area is a compass on a shelflltv. just keep your eyes open for good stuff like boxes and pouches to put stuff in for more inventory space.

AFAIK you don't get XP from collecting items, but you DO get it from exploring new rooms, opening new containers, and (possibly?) when encountering certain plot-related things. I assume you also get it from killing enemies, but I'm not sure about that.

As for healing, I'm pretty sure there's only 1 glowing healing potion per floor (some in random spots?), and not all of them restore 100% health, so use them carefully. Also, you can use them on Derrin if you want.

There is one per floor guaranteed, additionally floor 5 and up allows you to find extras very rarely in random containers. Assuming you grab every one you're likely to have more than 10 total..
