Ahoy!

Week 3's update is about to land in the live build v1.0.34! There are two main features worked on in this build, first up is a new crew hiring screen has been implemented that showcases what weapons a potential crew member has, and their stats, and any passive abilities they have:

Work has continued to implement the special attacks for the remaining crew members and been tentatively completed. With this update all crew members now have their unique special attacks!

Next week's update is going to be a big one as well - an improved perspective on ships in combat, with multiple levels of damaged sails, and supporting a wide array of mast/sail configurations that will allow different ship types to be more accurately represented. This has been on my wishlist for a long time!

Navigator

A dagger attack (he's not much of a fighter).

Lookout

A high-damage musket attack.

Quartermaster

A vicious axe attack that inflicts damage on two targets.

First mate

A blunderbuss inflicting light damage across four opponents.

Last week I mentioned that the focus this week would be on expanding the special attacks. Special attacks are used in the turn-based crew-vs-crew combat and are the most powerful or versatile attack a crew or captain can have, but with a cooldown that prevents using them all the time.

When the game launched only the captain's special attack was live. On the technical side there was a bit of work to be done to set up for crew having unique attacks and attacks to have unique effects like stunning, this will feed into future aspirations to implement an inventory system.

Over the next week I'll be polishing and balancing these attacks and taking care of the remaining details for them: effects like bleeding and critical strikes, the crew roles still awaiting their special attacks (Navigator, Lookout, Quartermaster and First Mate), and noting what someone's passive and special abilities are during the hiring and upgrading processes.

With version 1.0.30 these crew roles are getting their attacks:

Soldier

A four-target spear attack.

Master-at-Arms

A three-target throwing knife attack. The Master-at-Arms also has a passive ability to reduce the cost of cannon upgrades on their ship.

Sailing Master

A single-target stunning attack. The Sailing Master also has a passive ability to increase your ship's sailing speed and reduce the cost of sail upgrades on their ship.

Deckhand

A single-target stunning attack.

Cook

A single-target cleaver attack. The cook also has a passive ability to restore your crew's health as you travel to and from missions.
