How do I use the small printer on a new planet?

I put it on the ground and it requires me to plug it into something. I put it on the small shuttle (after I remove the seat), and it won't print

I literally have the shuttle, the shuttle pod, the thrusters and my printer. That's it. I can't put the printer on a platform, because I didn't bring one with me.

Am I missing a step?

When you go to a new planet you need ot bring a few things with you to start a base. Unlike your original base ship, the shuttle doesn't provide power. Usually I pack a printer, either a wind trubine or solar panel and two small base pads (one for a printer and one for a power source). You can hook them to your backpack if they have not been "unpacked yet" (if they are still just cubes).

Actually I figured it out. You can plug the power items on their own little base into the printer. Was not an intuitive leap
