Smelter not in Medium Printer list or in Catalog

I just started playing again after several months. Most posts and guides I have seen say that the Smelter should be in the base group that can be printed by the medium printer. A couple of others seem to suggest that it has to be researched, but shows up in the Catalog. In my case, neither is true, and without a smelter I can't progress in the game. So, under the latest update, how do you build the smelter, should it be in the list of items that medium printer can output? If it has to be researched, when / how does it show up in the catalog? Any assistance appreciated!!

Everything you can research is in the Catalog, always. Unless you have a glitch where the icons simply don't show up in there, then you verify the game cache from steam to fix the corrupted files.

The smelter is in the medium fabricator/printer, whatever they call this update. It's also in the Catalog where all the other building parts are in like the third tab iirc.

Thanks puppy, I don't have any building parts icons in the catalog and the only two choices in the medium printer are the large platform and the research lab. I will look into verifying the game cache - not familiar with that but assume there are instructions somewhere in Steam to handle it. Thanks for the assistance!

Follow-up. I validated the local files cache and still have the same problem. Any other suggestion as to next step to resolve?

Second follow-up. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, same problem remains.

Try deleting the shader cache for your graphics drivers.
The program CCleaner can do it.
nVidia has the option in the driver software iirc, AMD doesn't so you'll have to do it manually.
AMD location: %localappdata%\AMD\GLCache\

You can try reinstalling your graphics drivers. I'm not entirely sure why some people can't see those icons in the catalog but it's game breaking and needs to be fixed.

Of all the crap the tutorial should have told me, instead of crafting infinite canisters... "PRESS X!" would have been useful. I just kept going underground thiking i have to discover research like the power supply puzzel in the tutorial!

I didnt even know there were pages on the research screen o.o

yeah, they def made the tutorial a kiddie pool instead of a swim lesson, which im ok with. I just have a habbit of clicking anything and everything on screen like "ooooo wut this button doooo?" so it works out for me

I never finished the tutorial. I had to skip it. I kept telling me to craft a canister and I already had 2.

For anyone still searching for the answer, it's actually in the Large Printer catalog, but when you go build it, you have to use the Medium Printer
